2 Chronicles 6:14
“And said, O LORD God of Israel, there is no God like thee in the
heaven, nor in the earth; which keepest covenant, and shewest mercy unto
thy servants, that walk before thee with all their hearts:”
I love what Solomon said about God when he dedicated the temple. He said, “…O LORD God of Israel, there is no God like thee in the heaven, nor in the earth…” Solomon must have been overwhelmed with all that the LORD had done for him that he couldn’t help but proclaim that God is better than all the gods.
Have you have had a time in your life when someone did something for you that you proclaimed to them that they are the best? Many times, my daughter has said to me, “Dad, you are the best dad ever.” She normally says this after I have done something for her. When she says this, it is not that she doesn’t believe this at other times, but the emotion of the moment led her to proclaim how she felt about me.
When is the last time you proclaimed to God that He is the best God ever? If you stopped to think about all that the LORD has done for you, it would not be hard to say like Solomon, “…O LORD God of Israel, there is no God like thee in the heaven, nor in the earth…” Solomon points out a couple of reasons as to why he felt that no god was like our God.
First, Solomon felt that no God was like our God because He keeps His promises. The verse above says about God, “…which keepest covenant…” The key word in this phrase is, “keepest.” This is a present tense word which means that God not only kept His promise, but He continues to keep them. In other words, God follows through with what He promises. He makes sure that what He makes happen continues to happen. Our God is so great because of the perpetual blessings He continues to pour upon us. If you stopped long enough to look at what God has done for you and what He continues to do for you, you would find it easy to proclaim that there is no god like our God.
Moreover, the word “keepest” means that God carefully guards His promises. Christian, God never forgets what He promises. He guards His promises carefully so that they are as secure today as they were when He gave them. Whatever promise God has given in the past is still as good today as it was the day that He gave it. This means that the promises of God’s Word are secure. Always remember that God’s promises are as secure as God is God. Until God stops being God, you can rely on the promises of God being good.
Second, Solomon felt that no God was like our God because of His mercy. Solomon completely understood that he didn’t deserve God’s blessings, but it was because of His mercy that he received them. There is not a Christian who deserves anything from God. Everything that God has given you is because He is a merciful God. Why would sinners like us deserve God’s blessings? We don’t! However, God’s mercy is what allows you to have every blessing that He has bestowed upon you.
If you stopped and realized all the blessings you receive from the LORD on a daily basis, you would not find it hard to proclaim that there is no god like our God. Let me encourage you to daily take the time to look at God’s goodness to you. When you see His goodness, you will easily proclaim His deity and power.
