PETA strikes again

Although most people realize by now that the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals [peta] is three rings short of a circus, companies keep falling for their monkey business.

According to ap, Nabisco knuckled under to peta’s demand that their animals “roam free in their natural habitats.” What animals, you ask? Well, that’s the elephant in the room. The “animals” peta went rabid over are … drawings. The peta clowns were antsy about the artwork on the animal crackers box. Yes, Nabisco’s iconic Barnum’s Animals box, enjoyed by small children since 1902, featuring a lion, elephant, gorilla, and polar bears in circus cages.

So the company redesigned the box, which now features a wildly improbable scene of a zebra, elephant, gorilla, giraffe, and lion strolling side-by-side in a grassland. The new art was approved by peta Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman, who said it “reflects that our society no longer tolerates the caging and chaining of wild animals for circus shows.” Instead, I guess “our society” tolerates zebras and giraffes being brutally slaughtered and eaten. Because, folks, a lion is a lion. And that’s the way the cookie crumbles.
