Bible Thoughts by Terry Hedderman

Wednesday, 4/20/16  2 Chron 36:1, Then the people of the land took Jehohaz the son of Josiah, and made him king in his father’s stead in Jerusalem. Are you willing and able to stand in your father’s stead (place, spot, in general)? No, your heavenly Father’s stead: as the Father hath sent me, so send I youI and my Father are one.               Heb 5:2, Who can have compassion on the ignorant, and on them that are out of the way; for that he himself also is compassed with infirmity. Wherever you are in your Christian life, Christ HAS COMPASSION ON YOU!! Remember: whatever you’re facing He did too. So quit with the defeated attitude: you’re “more than a conqueror!!” ‘Tween you and Him...you’ve got this

Thursday, 4/21/16  Heb 4:1, Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it. Maybe if we’d fear missing some aspect, some blessing, some help in the Christian life, we’d put forth more effort to “get it all.”                Ps 39:4, Lord, make me to know mine end, and the measure of my days, what it is; that I may know how frail I am. Do you consciously view yourself as frail or capable? How do you act on a daily basis? What are you doing to strengthen/lessen your weaknesses? Friday, 4/22/16  Heb4:11, Let us labor therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief. We have to work at our Christian lives in order for our Christian lives to work for us. So...should your “Boss” promote you or give you a raise based on your work?               Ezr 4:1-3, Now when the adversaries...head that the [Jews] builded the temple...; then they came...and said..., Let us build with you: for we seek your God, as ye do... But Zerubbabel, and Jeshua...said unto them, Ye have nothing to do with us to build an house unto our God...  1Yes, people can change from being an adversary to being an ally.  2However, trust must be earned. Love is given, trust is earned.  3If you’ve been an adversary to someone in the past, realize they will be slow to trust you, if they ever do. (They can’t see that your heart has been changed.)  4If you’re the one who’s been burned, be cautious, but don’t be so hard-headed that you will never give someone a second chance. Don’t be intractable.

Saturday, 4/23/16  Heb 6:15, And so, after [Abraham] had patiently endured, he obtained the promise. God’s promises are sure...He’ll do as He promised; we just have to patiently endure (taking it without complaining or fretting).                     Ecc 7:21-22, Also take no heed unto all words that are spoken; lest thou hear thy servant curse thee: for oftentimes also thine own heart knoweth that thou thyself likewise hath cursed others. Give others the break, the 2nd chance, the compassion that you occasionally need. Let others be as human as you often are.
Sunday, 4/24/16  I wonder how often we inadvertently and unintentionally offend/sin against the Lord. Ps 78:18, And they tempted God in their heart by asking meat for their lust. Examine your prayer requests.                 Ps 115:13-15,He will bless them that fear the Lord, both small and great. The Lord shall increase you more and more, you and your children. Ye are blessed of the Lord which made heaven and earth. We all need encouragement at times (often). We all need to be reminded of the positives in life that offset the negatives. Go brighten the lives of at least 3 people today
Monday, 4/25/16  Ps 118:5, I called upon the Lord in distress: the Lord answered me, and set me in a large place. If circumstances drive us closer to God, how can we classify them as “bad”?           Nothing bad ever happens to a surrendered Christian.                Ecc 10:9, Whoso removeth stones shall be hurt therewith; and he that cleaveth wood shall be endangered thereby. Whatever you do or attempt to do (concerning marriage, children, hobbies, school, health, etc.), there will be a risk. Calculate. Think. Choose a course, and then act, and deal with the fallout (positive or negative).

Miscellaneous thoughts from others:
- Success should not be our goal: touching lives so as to point them to Christ should be.
- You can try to justify your attitude toward someone because you think you are right . . . however, being right does not give you the right to hate.
- A real friend will not only provide a shoulder on which to cry, but will also provide arms to carry your burden while you cry.
- The Bible is not a book about how God disqualifies men from being used but rather how God takes disqualified men and uses them to accomplish his purpose and bring himself the glory.
- My wife just asked me if I was busy. Nothing good can come from this…
- If our faith doesn't work at home, it isn't going to work anywhere.
- No success in public life can compensate for failure in the home.
- Small people stumble over tiny things.
The scariest thing I ever did! I remember going to get counsel from Dr. Jack Hyles about starting a church. After hemming and hawing for about 20 minutes, I finally said with an uncontrollable quiver in my lips, "I'm just scared!" I remember it like it was yesterday. He pushed away from his desk and burst out laughing. I couldn't believe it! Then he leaned forward and became extremely serious and said, "It's okay Bro. James, I've been running scared for 44 years now. It never gets easier." With that single statement, I took off like a race horse. And since then I have faced many scary situations. And I've done the exact same thing!  My friend, if God has made it clear in His Word concerning your trial or opportunity, it's okay to be scared. But, you need to act by faith. It will always be scary. And that is exactly what makes the Christian life so exciting!
- “Go” means that there is a purpose. Whenever you see the word “go” it means that we purpose in our hearts to do something, that there is an effort. Every Christian is to make the effort to go reach the lost, to find people that are unsaved. There is the element of action. Soul winning, in other words, is not passive, it is a thing of action. We are supposed to do something. We are to make an effort. We are not to wait until the lost come to us, we are to go and seek or find the lost.
- Life begins when selfishness ends.
- Work can be play or play can be work it all depends upon what you love.
- The striving in life is much better for you than the arriving in life.
- A lack of gratitude is a lack of character.
- Tell yesterday you are too busy to hang out with it today.
- Be right humbly, lest your rightness become self righteousness.

Bible thoughts from some others:
- Bible thoughts! Ps 20:7, Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the Lord our God. Let's remember to trust the Lord and not our resources!
- 1 Chr 16:34, “O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever.” Here's a pretty huge reason to give thanks to the LORD. You can spend eternity with Him, instead of in Hell, because His mercy endureth forever! It's such a big deal that it's repeated in: Ps 106:1, Ps 107:1, Ps 118:1, Ps 136:1, Ps 118:29.
- Bible thoughts! Ps 23:2, "He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters." We don't have to have our eyes on the "green pastures" and the "still waters" those things will come when we focus our eyes on Jesus!
- Bible thoughts! Pro 25:28, "He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls." When the great walls around an ancient city were brought down, the enemy could easily come in to kill and destroy. Let's not allow unclean spirits to come in because we have a bad attitude.
- Bible thoughts! Isa 54:17, "No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is of me, saith the Lord."  Wow! This is by far my most favorite verse in the Bible! Isn't our God good??!!
- If I feared my dad enough to obey him, then I never had to be afraid of him in my disobedience. I feared my father enough to obey him, but when I disobeyed him I was afraid of him. If my fear made me obedient then I had nothing to be afraid of. When Adam and Eve failed to fear God enough to obey him, they were afraid when they heard His voice. That's what it really means when it says “the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.” When you fear God you are wise enough to obey Him and then you don't need to be afraid of God. In other words, as long as we have the fear of God we never need to fear our God.
