Bible Thoughts by Terry Hedderman

Sunday, 2/23/14  Ps 137:1 By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down, yea, we wept, when we remembered Zion. No pleasure of sin is equal to the guilt and remorse afterwards. It’s always a bad trade. Living godly is hard; living wickedly is harder.                  Ps 78:7 That they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments. Sure, God likes to be remembered, but this is not the reason for Him wanting to not be forgotten: all that God does, He does FOR us, so our not forgetting Him is for our benefit. How? Not forgetting Him helps our faith, and prompts us to keep His commandments.

Monday, 2/24/14  Ps 139:17 How precious also are thy thought unto me, O God! How great is the sum of them! If you’re blue, soak in this verse. If you feel insignificant, bathe here.  If you’re wondering if God is against you, drink from this spring.             Ps 78:34 When he slew them, then they sought him: and they returned and enquired early after God. Does God have to play hardball to motivate you to seek Him? Do you really wanna dare God to touch someone close to you?

Tuesday, 2/25/14  Pro 21:3 To do justice and sacrifice is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice. To treat your employees fairly is better than giving on Double Tithe Sunday. To respect and honor your spouse is better than giving $300 for the bus kid’s school bill. To restrain, discipline, and train your kids is better than 12 hours spent on a bus route.               2 Kings 10:31 But Jehu took no heed to walk in the law of the Lord God of Israel with all his heart: for he departed not from the sins of Jeroboam, which made Israel to sin. How sad!! In v30, Jehu had just had a conversation with God!! But he was careless and half-hearted regarding his obedience. Give God all of your heart, and serve Him with ALL of your heart.

Wednesday, 2/26/14  Ps 80:3 Turn us again, O God, and cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved. The solution you so desperately seek in not in more money, or the elimination of that problem person, or in more time; your solution is in the face of the Lord. “Turn your eyes upon Jesus; look full in His wonderful face...”              1 Thess 1:3 Remembering without ceasing your work of faith, and labor of love, and... Again, love isn’t a feeling. Love is treating someone the way the Bible says to treat them. And here, it refers to laboring in love, or obeying even when it’s hard. Stay with your spouse! No divorce!! Believe in and love your kids!! They need you! Stay at your job...don’t walk away from soul winning opportunities because of personalities.

Thursday, 2/27/14  Mark 9:5a,6 And Peter answered and said to Jesus...for he wist not what to say. I have the same tendency as Peter: having nothing of value to say never keeps me from speaking!! Though silence can be awkward, I’ve never had to eat the words I didn’t say.              Pro 24:10 If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small. How was your Bible reading when you were unemployed? Did you pray when you were verbally attacked? How much praise and worship did you give when both cars were broken down? Strengthen your spiritual muscles when life’s good: the bad is coming.

Friday, 2/28/14  Pro 24:16 is famous: For the just man falleth 7 times and riseth up again but v16 is a continuation of v15: Lay not wait, O wicked man, against the dwelling of the righteous; spoil not his resting place. The falling and rising again in v16 refers to dealing with personal attacks. If you didn’t handle it correctly, get up again.          1 Thess 4:1b ...that as ye have received of how how ye ought to walk and to please God, so you would abound more and more. You know what to do, now quit making excuses, quit caving in to the lusts of the flesh, quit justifying your sin....OBEY ALREADY!!!

Saturday, 3/1/14  Ps 145:1-17 are completely verses of praise and worship. The vv 18-20 refer to the needs of the psalmist and gives a few prayer promises, then another verse of praise. Eighteen verses of praise - 3 verses of prayer. Maybe we’d do a lot better with God if we’d try this 6:1 ratio.           Mark 10:2-6, 9 And the Pharisees came to him, and asked him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife? Tempting him. And he answered and said unto them, What did Moses command you? And they said, Moses suffered to write a bill of divorcement, and to put her away. And Jesus answered and said unto them, For the hardness of your heart he wrote you this precept. But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female...what therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. Because of man’s wicked heart, God knew divorce would occur, so God gave some directions on how to do it. He is NEVER for it; He allows it under very select circumstances.

Thoughts from some others
Col 3:2 Set your affections on things above, not on things on the earth. We need to work on our love for heavenly things and not for the things of earth. Earthly things wear out, fall apart, and pass away. Heavenly things are eternal, durable, and nonperishable. It is an attitude and an activity that must be worked on and doesn’t come naturally or easily.
Pro 25:11 A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver. An appropriate word of encouragement, comfort, or understanding at the right time can be more beautiful and valuable than a priceless painting.
Eph 4:30 And grieve not the Holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. The Holy Spirit is stuck within every believer and we need to be careful what we say and do: it’s a reflection on both of us.
Pro 27:18 Whoso keepeth the fig tree sahll eat the fruit thereof: so he that waiteth on his master shall be honored. Hard work and loyal service deserve to be and ought to be rewarded.
Ps 78:6a That the generation to come might know them, even the children which should be born... The reason that America is in the shape that she’s in is because of this. The older generation didn’t pass truth onto the next generation.
