Bible Thoughts by Terry Hedderman

Sunday, 11/2/14  Are you frustrated that God’s no helping you? So is God!! Ps 81:14: I should have soon subdued their enemies, and turned my hand against their adversaries. But look at v13: Oh that my people had hearkened unto me, and Israel had walked in my ways. Before getting upset at Him, examine your (dis)obedience.              Heb 5:2 Who [earthy high priests] can have compassion on the ignorant, and on them that are out of the way; for that he himself also is compassed with infirmity. Leaders (dads, pastors, teachers, coaches, bosses): don’t ever forget that you’re not better than your lowliest follower. Your degrees or titles or power or position are from God. Don’t ever think that you’re one whit better in any way, shape, or form.

Monday, 11/3/14  Pro 1:23 Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you. If problems occur and you go to God, He’ll refer you to His word, which probably involves,  1attending church, and,  2pointing out your sin.        Ps 82:2 How long will ye judge unjustly, and accept the persons of the wicked. How do leaders, (especially teachers in a Christian school,) do this? By “not noticing” and not stopping bullying, arrogance, and caste systems. V3-4: Defend the poor and fatherless (not just the cool kids): do justice to the afflicted and needy (not just the athletes and staff kids). Deliver the poor and needy (not just the ones with the “right” clothes): rid them out of the hand of the wicked. Yes, picking on, looking down upon, and cliques are wicked.

Tuesday, 11/4/14  Heb 12:2 ...who for the joy that was set before him (Jesus) endured the cross... Jesus made it through the cross by focusing on the joyful goal and not the painful price. So often I (we) do the opposite.              Gal 6:1 Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted. When someone falls: 1) Help them get back on their feet.  2) You may a little dirty doing so. Getting them clean may cost you.  3) Learn the after effects of sin.

Wednesday, 11/5/14  Mark 14:2 But they said, Not on the feast day, lest there be an uproar of the people. While it is good to not automatically follow the crowd, if the majority is leaning a certain way, that should make us think twice.              Josh 23:6 Be ye therefore very courageous to keep and to do all that is written in the book of the law of Moses, that ye turn not aside therefore to the right hand or to the left. Are you courageous enough to “keep” and “obey”? Disobedience is too easy; it’s cowardly.

Thursday, 11/6/14  Gen 1:28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over [all life]. Eph 5:28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. Man’s first priority is to care for his wife: physically (thru work and protection), emotionally (love), and spiritually (example, spiritual leader.)             Pro 5:3 For the lips of a strange woman drop as an honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil. If the women with whom you work or attend school aren’t the kind who’re out to destroy your marriage or morals, thank God for that situation. (Ladies, the same is true if the men you work with are moral.)

Friday, 11/7/14  Gen 2:20b ...but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him. Woman was made to complete man; to be an aid properly designed and fitted for him. She is to do what he cannot; to aid him to be and do what God would have him be and do.            Ps 44:1 We have heard with our ears, O God, our fathers have told us, what work thou didst in their days, in the times of old. Young people, it would be extremely wise and prudent for you to ask older people to tell you what they’ve seen God do, and how He’s come through for them.

Saturday, 11/8/14  Most of us pray for God to bless our actions: we should be doing what God’ll bless (Part 1). Ps 1:1a Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly. Where do you get your advice to direct your life? Societal norms? TV sitcoms? Convenience and expediency? Ungodly PhDs? Your own reasoning? Or God’s word through God’s man in God’s house?                  2 Chron 9:7 Happy are thy men, and happy are these thy servants, which stand continually before thee, and hear thy wisdom. Hearing God’s wisdom (and obeying) produces happiness. Try listening to 2-4 chapters a day for a month while in your car. (A chapter averages about 6 minutes in length.)

Thoughts from some others
Pro 29:16 When the wicked are multiplied, transgression increaseth: but the righteous shall see their fall. Wicked, weak leadership allows transgression, sin, and ungodliness to flourish, but the day is coming when we will see them fail and fall!!
Pro 30:33b ...so the forcing of wrath bringeth forth strife. We shouldn’t be surprised if uncontrolled anger causes a fight. We need to be constantly on guard and keep our temper/anger under control.
Ps 32:2 Blessed is the man unto whom the Lord imputeth not iniquity, and in whose spirit is no guile. Only an eternal loving Saviour could do and make this happen, but that took place when I trusted Him to save me over 60 years ago.
John 18:38b I find in him no fault at all. No fault, flaw, or imperfection in our Saviour!!
Ps 34:8a O taste and see that the Lord is good. Once we get a taste of the goodness of God, we will never be satisfied with anything else. It’s an addiction I never want to lose.
Josh 24:31 And Israel served the Lord all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders that overlived Joshua, and which had known all the works of the Lord that he had done. May God give us leaders who have seen the miraculous works of God.
Ps 34:18 The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart. One sure way to get close to God is with a broken heart.
Pro 6:16 These 6 things doth the Lord hate; yea, 7 are an abomination unto him. It would be good for us to share God’s distaste for these attitudes and activities, to know them well, and to review them often.
Jud 1:28 And it came to pass, when Israel was strong, that they put the Canaanites to tribute, and did not utterly drive them out. Lack of complete separation from the world and Biblical standards is contagious, no matter how logical it seems.
Ps 37:6 Commit thy way unto the Lord: turst also in him and he shall bring it to pass. We need to put all our weight on the Lord and trust Him for everything. He nevers fails to make it turn out just fine.
