Bible Thoughts by Terry Hedderman

Sunday, 12/15/13  Luke 16:25 But Abraham said, Son, remember... Memories and conscience will torment the damned.           Luke 16:23-24 And in hell he lift up his eyes being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. I believe the damned can see Heaven...that’s one of their torments: being aware of a party going on that they chose not to attend. Imagine a man being outside of a friend’s nice house looking in on a Christmas party that he didn’t attend.

Monday, 12/16/13  Luke 16:26 And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence. Our eternity is set in stone upon death. There is not another chance, no more opportunities to get saved.             Luke 16:23-24 And in hell he lift up his eyes being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. And he cried and said, Father Abraham... The man saw and recognized Abraham (despite living 1800 years later), but there is no indication of sight or recognition the other way. Was the rich man simply a voice in the darkness to Abraham?

Tuesday, 12/17/13  Isa 8:18 Behold, I and the children whom the Lord hath given me are for signs and wonders in Israel from the Lord of hosts, which dwelleth in mount Zion. Just a thought: God may not be “doing anything to you”; He may be “showing through you.” You can take what you’ve got to take.             Num 14:19-20 Pardon, I beseech thee, the iniquity of this people according to the greatness of thy mercy...And the Lord said, I have pardoned according to thy word. Seemingly, God pardoned the people only because Moses prayed. Whose sin are you asking God to pardon?

Wednesday, 12/18/13  Ps 137:4 How shall we sing the Lord’s song in a strange land?  Are you more prone to sing the Lord’s songs or the world’s songs in this strange land in which you live?            John 19:15 ...Shall I crucify your King? The chief priests answered, We have no king but Caesar. Who is the king of your life? I mean, REALLY. Who determines how you live? Whose statutes govern your relationships, your hurts, your goals, your recreation? Your own thoughts and lusts? Popular psychology? The tastes of your peers? Who is your king?

Thursday, 12/19/13  Remember that the reason for Christmas was Calvary. Without the Cross, the Manger was simply sweet. And without a soulwinner, the Cross was a total waste of time. Are you a soul winner? When was the last time you said, “If you died today...” Do you need to rededicate and redouble your efforts to win the lost?             Pro 16:9 A man’s heart deviseth his way: but the Lord directeth his steps. We must realize that our hearts tend to plan long-term and want long-term assurances and to see the resolution of every problem, whereas God only reveals small increments. I think that this causes many of our conflicts with God.

Friday, 12/20/13  Ps 3:2-3 Many there be which say of my soul, There is no help for him in God. But thou, O Lord...  Don’t listen to everyone else: run to God. He knows your situation, your capabilities, and your solution. Allow your problem to deepen your relationship with Him. He’s being good to you.              Ps 2:3 Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us. Attempting to live the Christian life with few or no restrictions/boundaries is to act like a heathen. Quit seeing how little you can get by with or how much you can get away with, and start seeing how holy and dedicated you could become.

Saturday, 12/21/13  Num 32:6 And Moses said...Shall your brethren go to war, and shall ye sit here? Very simply: are you doing your part of the work? We’re to “fight the good fight” (which involves danger, sweat, deprivation, etc.): are you active in the war or a disinterested civilian?              Luke 24:15 And it came to pass, that, while they communed together and reasoned, Jesus himself drew near, and went with them. Do you ever TALK about the Bible?

Thoughts from some others:
Ps 145:14 The Lord upholdeth all that fall, and raiseth up all those that be bowed down. Praise the Lord! This verse applies in all events of life, whether physically or spiritually.
Ps 147:11 the Lord taketh pleasure in them that fear him, in those that trust in his mercy. The Lord is not impressed with political power or military might, but in our attitude toward and dependence upon Him.
Pro 18:8 The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly. The words of a gossip/slanderer cut deeply causing internal damage to both the slandered and the slanderer.
Rom 16:17b ...mark them which cause divisions and offenses contrary to the doctrine you have learned and avoid them. We need to take heed, not fight or contend, but avoid or go around them. A good tactic for preachers and laymen alike.
Ps 1:3b ...and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. Prosperity and success by God’s standards is not an accident. His formula is simple, followable, and proven in vv 1-2.
Heb 13:5 ...I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.  I would rather have the promise of God’s presence than the feeling of God’s presence.
