Bible thoughts by Terry Hedderman

- Tuesday, 4/5/22  Psalm 77:11-12, I will remember the works of the Lord: surely I will remember thy wonders of old. I will meditate also of all thy work, and talk of thy doings. There are 4 good resolutions in those verses that could

fully occupy our day, and put a smile on the Lord’s face.                          Psalm 78:17, And they sinned yet more against him by provoking the most High in the wilderness. Our character is best checked at two extremes: when all is well, and when all is going terribly. These people blew it when things were rough. Good times, hard times: are you as steady as a rock in your church attendance? Praise & worship? Devotions? Soul winning? Giving? Forgiving?

- Wednesday, 4/6/22  Psalm 139:17, How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them! Whether it comes from our sinful nature or the lies of Satan, we often think that God is mad at us and barely tolerates us. Read, re-read, and re-re-read this verse. Your Groom and Father love you!!!                           Proverbs 3:31, Envy thou not the oppressor, and choose none of his ways. God only commands us in areas in which we struggle. So, it is in our nature to look at the prosperous wicked people and think, “Maybe their lifestyle, their philosophies aren’t so bad...maybe the Preacher is just harping on unimportant personal hobby-horses when he preaches about all that holiness being so good for us and so pleasing to God...” No, God said He is holy, and we are to be like Him. He said that in the end, He will be proven right and the ungodly shall perish. So, we’re commanded to look at the unsaved through Bible glasses, not with our own myopic views.

- Thursday, 4/7/22  Proverbs 3:7-8, Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil. It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones. Basic Bible doctrine: holiness improves health, and sin destroys it. That is, mental, emotional, and physical health. Be holy...for your sake.                           “Eat your vegetables!! You need them!!”  Remember hearing (& subsequently saying) that? Kids don’t always want what they need.  Psalm 80:5, Thou feedest [Your people] with the bread of tears; and givest them tears to drink in great measure. Sometimes, we need troubles so deep that we weep uncontrollably...not a delicious treat, but those times provide vitamins and minerals that big days and applause do not. “Eat your tears!! They’ll make you grow up big and strong one day!!”

- Friday, 4/8/22  1 Peter 3:1, Likewise, ye wives... 3:7, Likewise, ye husbands... Very simply, are you and I more focused on and concerned about others being what they are supposed to be, or on us being what we should be? Does the finger of blame FIRST get pointed elsewhere or at yourself? (Hard question and painful answer...all of us are guilty to some degree. It’s easier to point out another’s faults than admit our own.)                              Psalm 143:8, Cause me to hear thy lovingkindness in the morning; for in thee do I trust: cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto thee. The psalmist wanted God to show him how to walk the proper paths that day. Basic Bible doctrine: God has a desire for even the most minute aspects of our lives. Maybe we find ourselves “in a dark and scary forest at dusk” because we didn’t ask Him to help us “know the way wherein we should’ve walked.”

- Saturday, 4/9/22  1 Peter 3:6, Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, CALLING HIM LORD: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement. Very simply, how respectful is your speech in your home? Of course, teasing is acceptable, but is your speech generally uplifting? Does it communicate love?                                   Proverbs 7:9, In the twilight, in the evening, in the black and dark night...[the simple was met by an adulterous woman.] It’s a basic truth that sin is more prevalent, more tempting, and more frequently committed at night. Schedule your evenings with that in mind. Very little good occurs after 9-10 p.m.

- Sunday, 4/10/22  Luke 12:13, And one of the company said unto him, Master, speak to my brother, that he divide the inheritance with me. And he said unto him, Man, who made me a judge or a divider over you? Even Jesus kept His nose out of another’s business. Oh, that we would do half as well as He did.                           John 5:5, And a certain man was there, which had an infirmity thirty and eight years. A preacher said that every time he reads this verse, he does 2 things: first, he thanks God for the measure of health that he has. We take our bodies for granted.  Secondly, he asks God to help him to be aware of the burdens and illnesses of others. There is a hurting world out there, and we miss so much of it cuz of our phones, our hustle, our selfishness. Encourage an ill one at church this morning.

- Monday, 4/11/22  Honestly, just between you and me, would you consider yourself a good person? Or, would you like to be one?  Psalm 147:1, Praise ye the Lord: for it is good to sing praises unto our God; for it is pleasant; and praise is comely. Do the things good people do.                                Matthew 26:30, And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives. Each word of Scripture is put there on purpose, so the mention of this singing is put there for us to notice. Why would they sing before they left the Last Supper? Jesus may have wanted to calm their spirits knowing what was about to happen in the next few hours. Our songbooks ought to be the second-most dearest book we have, and it should often be used at home.
