Bible Thoughts by Terry Hedderman

Sunday, 6/1/14  Ps 42:5, 11; 43:5 Why art thou cast down, O my soul? And why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance. The Psalmist talked to himself to encourage himself. You won’t always be able to reach the preacher or the SS teacher...be able to pump yourself up.                Exo 6:7 And I will take you to me for a people, and I will be to you a God: and ye shall know that I am the Lord your God, which bringeth you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians.  Ezek 6:7 And the slain shall fall in the midst of you, and ye shall know that I am the Lord. Which chapter 6, v7 do you want? How do you want Him to prove Whom He is?: by His blessings or His judgments? Reread the verses:  He does give commandments that He will enforce.

Monday, 6/2/14  Ezek 39:22 So the house of Israel shall know that I am the LORD their God from that day and forward. This is the key phrase of the entire book and is repeated over 70x. The Theme of Ezekiel:  God simply wants to be acknowledged for Who and What He is.           John 13:8-9 Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me. Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head. I laugh at Peter each time I read this....but at least he wanted to be close to Christ. Do you? Do I? Can anyone who’s watching tell?

Tuesday, 6/3/14  Pro 29:1a He, that being often reproved hardeneth his neck... Parents, teachers, bosses: don’t keep verbally correcting someone if it is doing no good...their obstinence is forcing you to up your response. If you’re the one who “has heard it til [I’m] blue in the face,” you might want to read the rest of the verse.                John 18:11 Then said Jesus unto Peter, Put up thy sword into the sheath: the cup which my Father hath given me, shall I not drink it?  How often do we try to refuse to drink the cup that our Heavenly Waiter brings to our table?  We rebel, argue, get mad at, get bitter toward Him, and to the Divine Cook. Jesus accepted the proffered cup, even though it was decidedly bitter. We should do the same.

Wednesday, 6/4/14  Ps 138:4 All the kings of the earth shall praise thee, O Lord, when they hear the words of thy mouth. Yes, people are hard and lost in sin, but they were still created with a God-sized void in their heart. If we’d just present the Lord to all, many would accept Him. God help us!!             Luke 3:8a Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance... Preaching exterior behavior changes is not an idea floated by Fundamental Independent Baptists. Much of the Bible deals with outward behavior and actions. Some people teach that Christianity is only about the heart:  “Get saved, and love God and others!!” Others harp on the exterior to the (near) occlusion of the heart. Both of these views are wrong: not only are we to be characterized by a love for God and others, but also we’re to show a pattern of good works that men may see, holiness, and we’re to be the salt and light of the world. (Salt and light are very different from their surroundings.)  God is very concerned with our inside, and God is very concerned with our outside. To only work on one or the other is wrong. Standards (minimum acceptable levels) are man-made measurements which are utilized for determining acceptability in terms of attendance (employment or enrollment).

Thursday, 6/5/14  Acts 28:20b ...because that for the hope of Israel I am bound with this chain. What is a hope, a huge blessing may often be represented by a chain, or may manifest itself initially as a negative. Persecutions, deprivations, standards often are looked at solely from a negative view point.            Dan 1:17 As for these 4 children, God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom... Students, ask God to help you learn. Teachers, teach how to pass your class, or how to absorb your material. Could you sit through your class and prosper?

Friday, 6/6/14  Ps 48:1 Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised... These 9 words could fill our whole day’s agenda if we’d let them.                 Pro 31:10 Who can find a virtuous woman?  I DID!!! We need a new holiday: Wonderful Wife Wednesday to celebrate Spouse-ly Sweetness; Fabulous Friendships; and Hallelujah Honeys!!! Show your spouse some appreciation today!! (Or, work on getting one.)

Saturday, 6/7/14  Job 1:1 ...Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil. Think about this: how would the Lord summarize your character and level of commitment in 1 verse?? Really!! Be honest with yourself.          Job 1:1-3  ...Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil...7 sons & 3 daughters. His substance... In describing Job, God first mentioned his character and relationship to God, then his family, then his possessions. We oftentimes reverse that order.
Thoughts from some others
James 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. When we submit to God, we need to run the Devil off if we would truly be spiritual and useful to God.
Pro 1:10 My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not.  The only way sinners and sin can entice and entangle us is with our consent.
Pro 3:2 When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet.  A sure cure for insomnia and a formula for peaceful rest. A close walk with God and His knowledge and wisdom are far safer and superior to sleep medications and downers.
Ps 25:11 For thy name’s sake, O Lord, pardon mine iniquity, for it is great.  A broken, humble spirit will always get God’s attention, regardless of the severity of the offenses.
Ps 27:14 Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait I say, on the Lord.  If we would have courage, confidence, and inner strength to face and defeat the world, the flesh, and the devil, we need to wait on the Lord as a waitress waits on us at a restaurant. We have a KJB to tell us what He likes and prefers.
