Bible Thoughts by Terry Hedderman

Tuesday, 10/25/16  Exo 33:13, Now therefore, I pray thee, if I have found grace in thy sight, shew me now thy way, that I may know thee... Knowing His way is good; doing it is better; but they are not the end goals. We’re to learn them so as to know Him. Quit practicing religion and get acquainted with, and love, a Person.
Ps 44:1-2a, We have heard with our ears, O God, our fathers have told us, what work thou didst in their days, in the times of old. How thou didst... Adults, do you tell your kids what God’s done for you? Your testimony? Stories of big days? Answered prayer? Camps/revival meetings? Being led?  Kids, do you listen when we try to talk? (I’ve found this to be BIG: young people who won’t listen. You have a responsibility too: see Pro 23:26.)

Wednesday, 10/26/16  Your level of happiness is directly tied to your relationships to righteousness and sin. Ps 45:7, Thou lovest righteousness, and hatest wickedness: therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows. Confession, love, mercy, forgiveness, holiness...they’re for you.                          Josh 24:15, And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve... You WILL serve a god or God...which have you been serving, and which will you serve today? The Lord God on High? or the god of your belly? of money? of selfish pleasure? of bitterness? of revenge?

Thursday, 10/27/16  How long has it been since you sang a Scripture song? Ps 119:54, Thy statutes have been my songs in the house of my pilgrimage. Make a list of verses you know and keep it in your pocket.                                  Pro 11:17, The merciful man doeth good to his own soul: but he that is cruel troubleth his own flesh. (Definitions: “merciful”: kind deeds;  “good”: reward, ripening;  “soul”: heart, mind, life in general; “cruel”: terrible;  “troubleth”: disturb, afflict, stir up;  & “flesh”: flesh, body, kin.) Putting the definitions into the verse:  “The man who does kind deeds rewards his own mind and body: but he that is terrible disturbs and afflicts himself and his family.”  Hmmm...examine yourself and your words, especially at home.

Friday, 10/28/16  Ps 24:1, The earth is the Lord’s, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein. God never asks too much from us or asks for anything to which He has no prior claim.                             1 Cor 10:6, Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted. Do you learn from Scripture and change because of it, or is it just something that you read or hear preached to pass the time? Could you tell me the last change to your life you made because of a specific verse?

Saturday, 10/29/16  1 Cor 10:12, Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall. The context is in combatting the temptations of desire, idolatry, fornication, tempting God, and complaining. YOU are susceptible to each and every sin that you could name.                                 Job 1:12 And the Lord said unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thine hand. All things, even bad and long-term negatives are permitted by God. In the midst of those trials, can you, will you trust that He’s:  1Good?  2Wise?  3Working in them? (i.e. has a purpose in them.)  4Loving you during the hard time?

Sunday, 10/30/16 Eph 4:32, And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.  1 Pet 3:8, Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous. Forgiveness and love are commands from God, and therefore the doing of them is a choice, not a feeling. The positive feelings (heart) come next, and they come from the depositing of our treasures (money, time, our will) into the person. So, decide to obey God, and then invest...i.e. risk.

Monday, 10/31/16  1 Cor 10:31b, ...whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God. Glory = “turning the spotlight onto.” Could it be said that your daily lifestyle (relationships, character, hobbies, recreation, work habits, language, etc.) puts a worthy spotlight onto Christ?                          1 Cor 10:32, Give none offence, neither to the Jews, nor to the Gentiles, nor to the church of God. Could any aspect of your daily life (relationships, language, character, hobbies, recreation, work habits, jokes, etc.) cause a saved person to stumble in their Christian walk, or an unsaved person to reject the Gospel?

Bible thoughts from some others:
- Isa 5:18, Woe unto them that draw iniquity with cords of vanity, and sin as it were with a cart rope. This is a picture of our nation today: we’ve made sin and wickedness convenient.

- Ps 18:46, The Lord liveth: and blessed be my rock, and let the God of my salvation be exalted. We need to remind ourselves regularly that our God is alive and well, that He is worthy of our praise and exaltation, and can always be relied upon for help and protection.

- Pro 26:28a, A lying tongue hateth those that are afflicted by it, and a flattering mouth worketh ruin. What we say is a reflection of our heart. We cannot hide a hateful, bitter spirit.

- Isa 6:5, Then said I, Woe is me! For I am undone: because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King the Lord of hosts. When we see the Lord high and lifted up, we see ourselves and those around us through spiritual eyes and are very humbled and convicted.

- James 3:10, Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be. This is a sad statement and should be read and heeded by every child of God. Many could use Mom’s bar of wash soap to clean out their mouth.

- Ps 32:10, Many sorrows shall be to the wicked: but he that trusteth in the Lord, mercy shall compass him about. A contrast of God’s attitude toward the unconverted and wicked versus those with faith and who trust in Him. PTL for His mercy which covers us!

- Pro 31:19, She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff. A Proverbs 31 lady will be able to sew and will teach her daughters and granddaughters.

Miscellaneous thoughts from others:
- Today, love is a very cheap word, but a very expensive commodity.
