Bible Thoughts by Terry Hedderman

Sunday, 3/2/14  Are you always right? Do you frequently get into arguments to prove your point? Pro 26:12 Seest thou a man wise in his own conceit? There is more hope of a FOOL than of him.            1 Tim 4:5 ...for [meat for food] is sanctified by the word of God and prayer. We all know to give thanks for our meals (Do you DO it?)...but here it seems to say we should read/quote some Bible at meal time too.           Pro 28:21 To have respect of persons is not good: for for a piece of bread that man will transgress. Everyone is a jewel in God’s eyes. Don’t allow yourself to value one better than another based on race, wealth, social grace, or position. “Grading” people opens the doorway to many sins.

Monday, 3/3/14  Ps 1:2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord... How can a person develop a delight for something spiritual? By the investment of time. Just like you learn to love a person by spending time with them, spend time with the Bible (while paying attention). “Date” the Bible; date God....you’ll see how awesome They are.                            Pro 28:5 Evil men unstained not judgment: but they that seek the Lord understand all things. Don’t be surprised when unsaved people question your opinions (about religion, philosophy, politics, child rearing,...anything.) You have an internal set of rules and an inner light that they don’t get.         Pro 28:18 Whoso walketh uprightly shall be saved: but he that is perverse in his ways shall fall at once. Walking uprightly is a life preserver: it doesn’t mean that you won’t have troubles or have to endure some time floating, but you’ve got Help.

Tuesday, 3/4/14  Ps 4:6 There be many that say, Who will shew us any good? Lord, lift thou up the light of thy countenance upon us. Most people tend to be pessimistic and discouraging. Some are faith-full and praying. Which group are you in the most often?             Pro 30:5-6 Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar. The Word of God:  1contains nothing bad.  2is protective.  3is worthy of trust.  4needs no supplementation.  5There are consequences for adding to it.  6You’ll be proven wrong is you disagree with it.

Wednesday, 3/5/14  Mark 11:26 But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses. Pretty plain, pretty clear, isn’t it? Do you want and need God’s forgiveness? Whom do you need to forgive? Your spouse? Boss? Kids? God? Peers? Parents? Let it go.            Mark 12:41-44 And Jesus..beheld how the people cast money into the treasury...rich cast in much....certain poor widow...2 mites...[she] hath cast more in, than all they...  1God sees all and knows all.  2God grades us on a percentage basis: how much we gave (in time, effort, mercy, money, love, etc.) vs how much we could have given.  3The fact that we’re “better” or “worse” than another is meaningless.  4The One Who owns everything and has all power doesn’t need us to give: we NEED to give.  5God doesn’t need your “much” He just wants your “max.”              2 Tim 2:7 Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things. Somehow, we’ve GOT to develop the habit and practice and the means to mull over what we hear from the pulpit and read in our Bibles. Consider what I say. Ask God to speak to you in this matter.

Thursday, 3/6/14  John 4:3-4 He left Judaea, and departed again into Galilee. And he must needs go through Samaria. Where are you right now? Where will you go today? What’s on your agenda? Gas? Groceries? Office? School? Shopping? Restaurant? ‘Tween here and there: go soul winning. Jesus did.         Pro 28:7 Whose keepeth the law is a wise son: but he that is a companion of riotous men shameth his father. Obedience to rules (understood or not) is wise. Running with a disobedient rowdy crowd shames both your Father and your father.

Friday, 3/7/14  Ps 47:1-2 O clap your hands, all ye people; shout unto God with the voice of triumph. For the Lord most high is terrible... Do you have a terrible God? Or is yours more like a senile ol’ grandpa, barely awake, barely involved in your life? Maybe you need to get involved in His life.             Ps 46:1 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea (bad calamities).  To know God is “very present” with you in calamity, you need to be very present with Him in the good times.

Saturday, 3/8/14  Pro 31:10 Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies. Many excellent character traits are listed in the next 22 verses. Men, we need to adopt many of them too. Don’t relegate this beautiful Scripture to just the ladies. Look and incorporate the virtue.             Ps 9:1 I will praise thee, O Lord, with my whole heart; I will shew forth all thy marvellous works. I wonder how totally unbelieveably strange we’d appear to even the best of Christians if we’d ever do anything spiritual “with our whole hearts.” God help us.
Thoughts from some others
Pro 29:4 Whoso is partner with a thief hateth his own soul: he heareth cursing and bewrayeth it not. Be very careful with whom you partner: it may require you to put up with, and overlook sin: wickedness that you’ve never even considered before.  It can cause inner hurt and self-hatred.
Ps 70:4 Let all those that seek thee rejoice in thee: and let such as love thy salvation say continually, Let God be magnified.  A daily pursuit of God, a reminder of His love and our salvation should make us all magnify Him and shout for joy.
Pro 7:8 Passing through the street near her corner, and he went the way to her house. If a man wants to maintain moral purity, he must avoid all roads the ways that that lead to immorality. If we never allow ourselves to travel those roads, we will never have an accident there.
1 Thess 1:7 So that ye were examples to all that believe in Macedonia and Acaia. We never know who’s watching us and the influence that we may have on them. We are the only Bible many will ever read.
Lev 26:3 If ye walk in my statutes, and keep my commandments and do them... It does matter how we live by God’s standards. His promises to us are still conditional.
Lev 24:14 Bring forth him that hath cursed without the camp, and let all that head him lay hands upon his head, and let all the congregation stone him. Public execution is a sure cure for criminal activity. God is for swift and public justice.
Pro 3:25-26b Be not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked when it cometh...for the Lord shall be thy confidence. We should not get too shook up or fearful about events of life in the world around us if our confidence is in the Lord. He’s still in control.
