Bible Thoughts by Terry Hedderman

Sunday, 6/8/14  Ps 51:2 Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions. Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me. When was the last time you came to God and got REALLY clean?           Ps 51:16b Thou delightest not in burnt-offering. 51:19 Then shalt thou be pleased with the sacrifices. Religious activities (service, standards, works) simply for the sake of religious activity is offensive to God. In vv 17-18, a broken and sincere heart are added. Standards and convictions for God without a heart wholly right toward God is offensive to both man and God.

Monday, 6/9/14  Jude 11 Woe unto them! For they have gone in the way of Cain... Beware of the trap of coming to God on your terms: He has said what He wants and expects. Don’t allow popular opinion or clever arguments or even plausible logic detract from His word and intents.              Dan 10:8 Therefore, I was left alone, and saw this great vision, and there remained no strength in me: for my comeliness was turned in me into corruption, and I retained no strength. The closer we get to the things of Heaven, the more we’ll see our “positives” as they really are. Truly, beauty is only skin deep, our intelligence is stupidity, and our strongest asset is weakness.

Tuesday, 6/10/14  Jude 11 Woe unto them! For they have...ran greedily after the error of Balaam. Don’t take the gifts God has given you to serve Him and instead use them for yourself and your gain. Your people skills, organizational abilities, creativity, strength, etc. are all for His kingdom’s sake.                Matt 18:21-22 Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Till 7 times? Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until 7 times: but, Until 70 times 7. Then the Lord tells the story of the man who owed the king 10,000 talents and was forgiven, and who then demanded payment from a peer of 100 pence.  Teaching: we’ve been forgiven a HUGE amount by God and are commanded to forgive the lesser amounts that our peers incur. DING-DING-DING!!! 800# GORILLA IN THE ROOM ALERT!!!! PROCEED WITH CAUTION!!! Some of you need to forgive Jack Schaap! Or Jack Hyles! Or First Baptist Church, or Hammond Baptist Schools or Bro. So-n-so or your parents or your ex or whomever for....whatever. Forgiveness means to release a debt from being paid. Let it go.  If wrong was done to you, release it. Let God deal with it if He sees the need to...but quit the bad mouthing, criticism, hatred, and mean spirits.  “Forgive” doesn’t mean necessarily to trust again or to associate with again; it simply means to release. Forgive....because you’ve been forgiven. As one who was deeply hurt by Bro. Schaap too....trust me, it’s for the best. Do they deserve it? No, no more than you or I deserve to be saved and on our way to Heaven. Do it for His sake.

Wednesday, 6/11/14  Jude 11 Jude 11 Woe unto them! For they have...perished in the gainsaying of Core. First comes self determination of how to please God; then comes prostituting His gifts to solely benefit us, then comes speaking against and sowing discord against God’s chosen leadership...then judgments.           Matt 6:15 But if ye will not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. There are 2 aspects to forgiveness: eternal and temporal. Our sins are forgiven eternally when we trust Christ for salvation. But here on this earth, we still need daily forgiveness, and that is conditional upon whether we forgive others. You’re commanded to forgive in order to get forgiveness. Without it, God won’t listen to you...which will discourage you...which may lead to you quitting on God.  DING-DING-DING!!! 800# GORILLA IN THE ROOM ALERT!!!! PROCEED WITH CAUTION!!! I’ll say it again:  Some of you need to forgive Jack Schaap! Or Jack Hyles! Or FBC or HB or HAC or Bro. So-n-so or your parents or your ex or whomever for....whatever. Forgiveness means to release a debt from being paid. Let it go.  OK, wrongs were done, and you’d like justice. Clear their debt: let it go. Let God deal with it if He sees the need to...but quit the bad mouthing, criticism, hatred, and mean spiritedness.  As one who was deeply hurt by Bro. Schaap and HB too....trust me, it’s for the best. Do they deserve forgiveness? No, no more than you or I deserve to be saved and on our way to Heaven. Do it for His sake.  Message me if either I need to apologize for anything you may feel I’ve done to you, or if I can help you begin to forgive them....

Thursday, 6/12/14  Acts 8:4 Therefore they that were scattered abroad went every where preaching the word. Because the disciples didn’t willing “go into all the world” and actively win souls, God brought persecution to spread them. Are you winning souls (locally and abroad) now, or does God have to turn up the heat some?             Matt 18:32-35 Then his lord, after that he had called him, said unto him, O thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou desiredst me: shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellowservant, even as I had pit on thee? And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him. So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses. This passage has always confused me. It seems the king/lord (who represents God) had reneged on his forgiveness, but God wouldn’t do that. Then I realized: there were 2 debts/offenses that the 1st servant owed. He owed 10,000 talents which was forgiven. That was wiped off of the books. However, that man wouldn’t forgive a lesser debt (which constituted a 2nd, separate offense against the king): THAT was what the man was tormented for. Lesson: we’re commanded to forgive each other because we’ve been forgiven...if we don’t God will judge us.

Friday, 6/13/14  Job 15:12-13 Why doth thine heart carry thee away? And what do thy eyes wink at, that thou turnest thy spirit against God, and lettest such words go out of they mouth? Our hearts are deceit-FULL...quit following them. And quit “not seeing” your sin...can’t you see you’re not as close to God as you used to be? Fix it!! Or you’ll be sorry in 5-10 years.              Ps 119:126-127 It is time for thee, Lord, to work: for they have made void thy law. Therefore, I love thy commandments above gold; yea, above fine gold. Notice, because the heathen voided the law of God, the psalmist loved it more. As Bible truth is rejected more and more obviously by society, we need to make conscious choices to elevate it in our own minds and to demonstrate and spread that love to all we contact.

Saturday, 6/14/14  Ps 57:2 I will cry unto God most high; unto God that performeth all things for me. If we’d just practice the first half of this verse and believe the 2nd half, a lot of our problems would be solved.                 Ps 119:126-127 It is time for thee, Lord, to work: for they have made void thy law. Therefore, I love thy commandments above gold; yea, above fine gold. As the world quickly degenerates and becomes corrupt to the core, we will need God’s word more and more. Muscles, strength, flexibility, and endurance all take time to develop; so too does a relationship with, and a love for the Bible. Work on it now!!
Thoughts from some others
James 5:16b The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. We should never underestimate the importance and effectiveness of the prayers of God’s people and our own honest, heart-felt prayers.
Pr 8:15-17 For political leaders, judges, and princes to lead, rule, or judge properly, they must have knowledge of God’s word. Without God’s favor and blessing, success is impossible. American and world leaders need to wake up.
Pro 10:30 the righteous shall never be removed: but the wicked shall not inhabit the earth. Try as they may, the ungodly and wicked can never wipe out or remove godly saved folks. The wicked can never win or defeat us. Our Leader is omnipotent: their’s isn’t.
Ps 34:9 Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the Lord delivereth him out of them all. God’s people an expect afflictions, troubles, and hardships, but our God is able and will come to our aid. We have a Helper and Deliverer the world knows nothing about.
Pro 14:29 He that is slow to anger is of great understanding: but he that is hasty of spirit exalteth folly. If we can control our emotions, and especially our tempers, it will go a long way toward making right decisions and avoiding tragedy and heartaches.
