Bible thoughts by Terry Hedderman

- Tuesday, 5/10/22  Psalm 40:1, I waited patiently for the Lord; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry. That God is aware of and active in your life is enough...so, just

sit still and wait. Trust that He’ll act at the right time. Ask what you’re to do in the mean time, and what you need to learn or forsake right now.                             Psalm 78:20, Behold, he smote the rock, that the waters gushed out, and the streams overflowed; can he give bread also? can he provide flesh for his people? Satan can’t deny what God has done, so he’ll tell us that despite that, there’s never been a situation like ours before, so therefore, God probably can’t help us. Since we’re perplexed, we believe that He is too.  No, He gives us the stories in the Bible so we’ll learn what He did: He came through in a thousand unique situations. So, our problem is not perplexing to Him in the least. Trust God and do rightly today.

- Wednesday, 5/11/22  Proverbs 6:11, So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man. The consequences of our poor choices (be they sinful or just unwise) may be slow in coming, but they WILL come, and they’ll demand our complete attention like a robber would. Be wary.                             Psalm 115:3, But our God is in the heavens: he hath done whatsoever he hath pleased. All of our occasional angst against God is simply because we are not on the same page with Him. He isn’t flustered or perplexed; we are. Our turmoil shows our faith. We need to work on THAT problem, not “His issues.”

- Thursday, 5/12/22  Psalm 118:6, The Lord is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me? Life is what it is, and God is what He is. Life happens and God still is. The more we dwell on Him and the less on life, the less the fears of life will trouble us.                             Hosea 13:9, O Israel, thou hast destroyed thyself; but in me is thine help. When we’ve smashed our car, we still go to the mechanic or body shop and let them look at it. When our health fails, we still go to the doctor. When finances are non-existent, we still go to work. So take your troubles to the Master Mechanic, the Divine Healer, the Omnipotent Banker. Emergency rooms still treat self-inflicted wounds just as vigorously as anyone else.

- Friday, 5/13/22  “Oh, the Lord must be SSOOOO disappointed in me...AGAIN!!” Psalm 87:2, The Lord loveth the gates of Zion more than all the dwellings of Jacob. He sure loves our little hovels...more than He does all the mansions in Beverly Hills. Clean up what you got: your King wants to visit.                                   Proverbs 10:2, Treasures of wickedness profit nothing: but righteousness delivereth from death. In a hundred ways this week we must decide if we want zero true profit or blessed deliverance. At work, around the dinner table, on the road, in church, on the phone with a customer service representative: it matters HOW you say & do what you say and do. By conscious choice, make your decision.

- Saturday, 5/14/22  Psalm 119:17, Deal bountifully with thy servant, that I may live, and keep thy word. If God was as good to you as you’d like, if He was “bountiful,” would He get more obedience or less? (Hint: look at your last period of blessings/no problems.)                               Acts 13:38, Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through [Jesus] is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins. The “forgiveness of sins” doesn’t just refer to God forgiving man; Calvary also makes it possible (and commanded) that we forgive others AND ourselves. Forgive yourself: He has, and He’s able to make good come out of your screw-ups.

- Sunday, 5/15/22  Mark 14:29, But Peter said unto him, Although all shall be offended, yet will not I. If the lead disciple could be, at the same time, so overconfident and so prone to failing, we need to pray for ourselves and loved ones to walk the straight and narrow.                           Jonah 1:3, But Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshish from the presence of the Lord, and went down to Joppa; and he found a ship going to Tarshish: so he paid the fare thereof, and went down into it, to go with them unto Tarshish from the presence of the Lord. Whenever we flee from God’s plan, we must pay a fare, and while we may have the fare in our pocket, there are “unseen fees” that’ll make the final cost far more than what was advertised. It’s not worth it...

- Monday, 5/16/22  Psalm 119:69, The proud have forged a lie against me: but I will keep thy precepts with my whole heart. The little trials during peacetime (like being lied about) are to strengthen us to stand in the real trials. So...are you passing or running from your current little trials?                                    Proverbs 12:21, There shall no evil happen to the just: but the wicked shall be filled with mischief. Notice the second half of the verse. If every day(or almost every day)  for you at home or work is a train wreck, if you feel the whole world is conspiring to complicate your life...God says it’s evidence that you’re wicked. His statement, not mine. Are you running from the truth of your Father? Is there someone you need to talk with to Him?
