Bible thoughts by Terry Hedderman

- Tuesday, 4/12/22  Psalm 1:1, Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. Many of us could quote most of Psalm 1. Don’t allow

yourself to get in the habit of glossing over familiar passages. There’s still gold for you and me to find there. There are still actions mentioned that we need to do more of. His Word is eternal in length and relevance.                                  Psalm 1:4, The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away. The ungodly are not how/what? The preceding verse talked about being stable like a tree next to a river, and this verse refers to chaff being blown away. Would your life be considered stable? Maybe you need more God in your life...no, not more religion or spiritual calisthenics, but more of a relationship to a real Person and renewing your commitment to actually implementing what He wishes. The ungodly are not so.

- Wednesday, 4/13/22  Psalm 3:1, Lord, how are they increased that trouble me! many are they that rise up against me. A reminder that this great man of God went through almost every imaginable trouble and heartache, yet he kept following his Lord and didn’t allow himself to get bitter. How’re you handling your recent adversities? Sweetly? Prayerfully? Or, angrily?                                 Psalm 42:2, My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God? I dare you. Go ahead, if you’re as tough as you think. Be brave enough to ask the Holy Spirit to talk with you and the two of you determine if you want God, or just the things of God? If He never answers again; if you go broke; if your spouse leaves you; if your dog pukes at the foot of your bed...is He still enough? The goal of your life? The answer may be painful to see...

- Thursday, 4/14/22  Psalm 46:10a, Be still, and know that I am God. He’ll do His part of revealing Himself IF we’ll do our part and stop acting like we’re in control and can handle things on our own.                                    Matthew 27:62-63, Now the next day, that followed the day of the preparation, the chief priests and Pharisees came together unto Pilate, Saying, Sir, we remember that that deceiver said, while he was yet alive, After three days I will rise again. Why didn’t the disciples remember this? Perhaps they got too casual about their level of attention. All of us have read pages of the Bible, and then realized our eyes were simply glancing across the page but nothing was penetrating our brain. We couldn’t say anything about what we just read.  All of us need to fight our flesh for a better, more sharpened focus.

- Friday, 4/15/22  Psalm 49:1, Hear this, all ye people; give ear, all ye inhabitants of the world... Hear what? A declaration of commitment and trust in v5: Wherefore should I fear in the days of evil, when the iniquity of my heels shall compass me about? Telling others of our resolve helps us to stay the course. It allows pride to work for us.                          Psalm 49:12-13, Nevertheless man being in honour abideth not: he is like the beasts that perish. This their way is their folly: yet their posterity approve their sayings. Notice the followers accepted and lived the statements of the elders. Listen, on eternal topics: if someone gives you wrong information about the Bible and you believe it, there are no bonus points for sincerity. YOU are responsible for what God said. YOU will suffer the consequences if you accept error. If someone erroneously tells you what the Bible says and you believe it, they have sinned and you are foolish. We each answer for ourselves. So, what is the plain Bible teaching regarding going to Heaven and missing Hell? Is it a certain amount of good works? Sincere effort? Keeping the commandments? Confessing sin to a priest? Being a member of a certain church? No, no, and again, NO. If you don’t know 1000% that you know and have done the Bible’s remedy for your sin, please, please contact me today.

- Saturday, 4/16/22  Luke 20:2, And [the chief priests] spake unto [Jesus], saying, Tell us, by what authority doest thou these things? or who is he that gave thee this authority? If one who doesn’t have a submissive heart and who is unable to answer the substance of what is being taught, they’ll resort to questioning the right to say it.                             Psalm 9:14, That I may shew forth all thy praise IN THE GATES of the daughter of Zion: I will rejoice in thy salvation. We should be very adept at giving God praise anytime and anywhere, and He deserves it. We could start by toning up “our praise muscles” by praising Him among God’s people. What has He done for you lately? Whom have you told about that?

- Sunday, 4/17/22  Psalm 9:1, I will praise thee, O Lord, with my whole heart; I will shew forth all thy marvellous works. Our God is pretty awesome! The psalmist made a good resolution here. Likewise, we should make the same one. If we’re not seeing anything marvellous, the fault is ours, not God’s.                           Proverbs 14:23, In all labour there is profit: but the talk of the lips tendeth only to penury. Will you have profit or penury? Plenty or poverty? Peace or panic? Extra or empty? The correct and desirable answer comes when we work more and talk less.

- Monday, 4/18/22  Proverbs 15:2, The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright: but the mouth of fools poureth out foolishness. The context indicates that the knowledge used rightly is negative knowledge. If someone has sinned, there are right verbal things to do and negative things to do. For the most part, “Hush.”                             Psalm 51:3, For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me. Satan will try to make us think that our sin is an insurmountable wall in front of us instead of it being a stepping stone to climb closer to God. Study what Paul did with his horrible past. He didn’t deny it or try to hide it, nor did he trumpet it. He simply used it, kept going for Christ, and won an empire to Jesus. Acknowledge your willful rebellion...and then climb higher than you used to be when you “were good.”
