Sunday, 2/9/14 Ps 122:1 I
was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the Lord.
Hopefully church attendance is not a choice with you but a habit. However,
prepare your heart to go today: stop and realize Who is there and that He wants
to talk to you. Pro 8:13 The fear of the Lord is to hate evil: pride,
and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate. Pride is
an internal attitude; arrogancy is the outward expression. It’s interesting:
the word arrogancy is used elsewhere in a good way in describing God’s majesty,
but you and I have no right to look down on anyone else.
Monday, 2/10/14 Pro 6:25 Lust
not after her beauty in thine heart; neither let her take thee with her eyelids.
Remember that lust is primarily a matter of the heart, not one of physiology,
situation, culture, or lifestyle. Sin is what God says it is, and we must fight
our innate desires. 2
Sam 23:3 The God of Israel said, the Rock
of Israel spake to me, He that ruleth over men must be just, ruling in the fear
of God. Dads, Moms, coaches,
teachers, bosses, bus drivers, babysitters....Heads up!!! This one is to you.
Tuesday, 2/11/14 Matt 28:19 Go ye...this should be sufficient to make all of us be active soul
winners, but the next word, therefore
seals it. This connects v19 back to v18: all
power is given unto me. There is an implied warning or threat there for the
disobedient, and implied encouragement for the obedient that He is behind them.
How long has it been since you said, “If you were to die today, do you know
100% for sure...”? Pro
9:13-18 refers to a seductive woman and cautions about her lies in v17: (she
promises a sweet & pleasant experience), and the inevitable consequences in
v18. Remember it is the same that any “secret” or “unknown” sin with which
you’re toying: temptation only shows the positive, but there are always big
negatives attached.
Wednesday, 2/12/14 Ps 65:2 O
thou that hearest prayer, unto thee shall all flesh come. Will you come
willingly, by choice, and by schedule, or will you come because of a tragedy,
panicked, and as a stranger? You WILL
come. Gen
32:28 And he said, Thy name shall be
called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and
with men, and hast prevailed. God chose to name His people after a dirt
ball named Jacob who got right with Him. Israel is the most used name in all
the Bible. If God has chosen to associate Himself with Jacob, He’ll hang around
you if you’ll let Him.
Thursday, 2/13/14 Ps 127:1 Except
the Lord build the house, they labor in vain that build it: except the Lord
keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain. The Christian service that
you do: are you doing it FOR God or WITH God? Ps
128:1 Blessed is every one that feareth
the Lord; that walketh in his ways.
The first half of the verse causes the 2nd half. Without a
proper perspective of God, proper actions are impossible (Pro 16:25).
Friday, 2/14/14 Rom 12:9 Let
love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which
is good. Good verse re: dealing with people. Love without hypocrisy, and realize that
usually there will be bad adjacent to the good. Many times, we have to tolerate
the bad while promoting the good in the same person....and love ‘em always. 2
Cor 11:3 ...lest...your minds your be
corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. His Book tells of a
problem, a penalty, a payment, and a plan. Accept the plan and then learn of
Him through His Book and grow in love toward Him and all people. Simple enough?
Now do it.
Saturday, 2/15/14 Mark 4:19 And
the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of
other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful. Are
you producing less fruit? Make sure you’re up to date on weeding out your inner
garden. Mark
4:20 And these are they which are sown on
good ground; such as hear the word, and receive it, and bring forth fruit, some
thirtyfold, some sixty, and some an hundred. Good seed + good ground +
reception/planting (mentioned) + (unmentioned here) regular watering (Bible,
Eph 5:26) + weeding (v19) + patience/time (Luke 8:15) = a harvest.
Thoughts from some others
Pro
10:12 Hatred stirreth up strife: but love
covereth all sins. Christians tend to categorize sin, but God hates all of
them: yet He paid for all of them and is willing to forgive and salvage the
sinner. He expects us to have the same loving attitude toward repentant
sinners. Thank God for His mercy!!
Gal 6:9 And let us not be weary in well doing, for in due season we shall reap
if we faint not. “In due season” is
a promise of God that many of us forget. Whatever we do in service for God will
be blessed and rewarded in God’s time, not ours.
Ps 55:2 Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee: he shall
never suffer the righteous to be moved. Disappointments, tragedies, and
problems come to all, but for the child of God, we have a refuge, burden
bearer, and problem solver to whom we can go. Let’s not forget to use Him and
stay very close to Him. He’s more than an ER doctor: but He is that too.
Ps 62:10b If riches increase, set not your heart upon them. America has been a wealthy prosperous nation,
and I’m afraid even God’s people have put too much faith and confidence in
material things and wealth. We are about to find out how big our God is and the
fallacy and futility of earthly wealth.
Eph 1:13 In whom also ye trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel
of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with
that Holy Spirit of promise. Thank God that our salvation is sealed by God
and is not dependent on us. I feel sorry for those who never know the joy of
eternal security in Christ.
Rom 8:35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Beware of the “who”
in culture that causes us to doubt the love of Christ.
