Bible Thoughts by Terry Hedderman

- Tuesday, 9/1/20  Romans 16:17, Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them. God sure places a high value on

doctrine (teaching.) It’s not enough that “we all love the same Jesus, but just view some things differently...” Doctrine determines actions. Different doctrines = different actions.                                Genesis 24:27, ...I being in the way, the Lord led me to the house of my master's brethren. If we won’t do His general revealed will as revealed in His Word, why would He give us His specific will? If I’m driving to an address on the north side of Chicago, there’s no point in telling me to turn left off of Irving Park if I never got on I-80/94 in Indiana 35 miles earlier.

- Wednesday, 9/2/20  Jonah 2:3, For thou hadst cast me into the deep, in the midst of the seas; and the floods compassed me about: all thy billows and thy waves passed over me. God can get our complete attention at any time or we can give it to Him at any time. Choose today...and tomorrow...and Friday.                           Romans 16:12, Salute Tryphena and Tryphosa, who labour in the Lord. Salute the beloved Persis, which laboured much in the Lord. Work for God while your body still can. There WILL come a time when you CAN’T teach a SS class; CAN’T run a bus route; CAN’T go soul winning. Yes you will realize and confront your frailty; your life is but a vapor...

- Thursday, 9/3/20  Need some direction? At a crossroads? Overdose on the Bible.  Psalm 119:130, The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.                                  Romans 6:19, ...even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness. Notice, acts of righteousness are different than holiness. We are to perform those acts of righteousness and eventually become holy. Righteousness is external; holiness is internal. Righteousness can be forced upon us; holiness is a choice. The standards of conduct in a good school or church are not the END; they are a means TO an end. Are you righteous or holy? Neither? Don’t care? Or, are you holy and therefore, willingly, sweetly do the same things as the clueless simple complaining one who only obeys because (sneering) “it’s the stupid rule of our church...”?

- Friday, 9/4/20  Psalm 119:141, I am small and despised: yet do not I forget thy precepts. It’s relatively easy to be a good, dedicated Christian when we’re on topside. The true measure of our faith and love for the things of God is revealed when we’re “small and despised.”                           Proverbs 28:1b, ...but the righteous are bold as a lion. There are two kinds of righteousness: eternal and temporal, or, imputed and practical. Boldness comes to us when we dwell on our unchanging permanent standing AND when we’re living holy here and now AND confessing quickly when we blow it.

- Saturday, 9/5/20  Psalm 119:158, I beheld the transgressors, and was grieved; because they kept not thy word. What’s the difference between you & I and David? You and I are grieved because the transgressors hurt us; he grieved cuz they hurt Him. Lord forgive and help us.                                   What if... What if God chose to bless us in equal amount to our love for the Bible?  Psalm 119:159, Consider how I love thy precepts: [and] quicken me... How does one fall in love with a sweetheart? By investing time, money, and will. So...that’s how we can deepen our love for the Bible. Invest time in reading, thinking about, talking about, posting of FB about, sending Bible thought texts out; invest money in allowing others to learn Its truths; and invest our will by surrendering to what we see and hear preached. What if...?

- Sunday, 9/6/20  Psalm 96:2, Sing unto the Lord, bless his name; shew forth his salvation from day to day. Live like you’re saved today. Can those at work, on the road, in your neighborhood look at you and see that there’s something different?                           Psalm 98:4, Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise. Because of all that He’s done in v1-3, we’re commanded to do what’s in v4-6. Look it up!

- Monday, 9/7/20  Romans 13:11, And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. WAKE UP!! The time to serve, to win souls, to lay up treasures in Heaven, to forgive is almost over. Don’t miss out.                            “So-n-so is God’s pet...He answers SSOOOO many of his prayers...I wish I knew the secret.”  Maybe God has a vested interest in answering his prayers. Psalm 119:175, Let my soul live, and it shall praise thee; and let thy judgments help me. Maybe God is so praise starved that He goes out of His way to help those whom He knows will brag on Him extra. Maybe...that’s the secret.
