Bible Thoughts by Terry Hedderman

- Tuesday, 2/16/21  John 6:37 gives us security from God’s side of the equation: All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out. John 6:47 gives us security from our side. Once saved...

always saved!!! “Come on Preacher! Yes sir!! It’s in the Book!!”                             Matthew 21:43, Therefore say I unto you, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof. If Christ took this privilege from His own nation, he will not hesitate to withdraw any privilege from us. Are you serving as He would have you do? Or, are you holding an office but not working? Is He getting “fruits” from you and I?

- Wednesday, 2/17/21  John 6:30, They said therefore unto him, What sign shewest thou then, that we may see, and believe thee? what dost thou work? These people had seen the feeding of the 5000 the day before so either they had a very poor memory, or they wanted Jesus to be a magician who performed on command. So often, though, you and I are as blind as they, and as demanding as they...(ouch...)                           Matthew 22:2, The kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain king, which made a marriage for his son. At times, all of us struggle with feeling loved by God. However, remember that the Lord wants us next to Him as much as a groom wants to be with his fiancée the night before the wedding...and to Him, it IS the day before the wedding. So, get your hair done...it’s almost time to walk the aisle!!

- Thursday, 2/18/21  Matthew 20:22a, But Jesus answered and said, Ye know not what ye ask. So often, like James and John, this is the case with us. We ask amiss, but thankfully, God gives us what we need while allowing us to ask for anything. He’s good enough to answer and wise enough to alter. What a God!!!                                   “Where we don’t believe in good enough: it’s got to be better.”  That was the motto for my dad’s restaurant.  Psalm 34:1, I will bless the Lord at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth. Yours and my praise life are not nearly good enough: make it better.

- Friday, 2/19/21  Proverbs 14:22, Do they not err that devise evil? but mercy and truth shall be to them that devise good. The word “devise” means to scheme. The first half of the verse is clear, but the second half is interesting. Have you ever fantasized about how you could be “sneaky good” to someone? Note the obvious rewards: mercy and truth.                                Proverbs 12:27, The slothful man roasteth not that which he took in hunting: but the substance of a diligent man is precious. There’s a difference between being frugal and being cheap; between generosity and wastefulness; between saving and hoarding; and between being prudent and have a lack of faith regarding money. Why don’t you discuss some attitudes/practices of yours with the Lord and maybe a trusted friend. “Don’t let your good be evil spoken of.”

- Saturday, 2/20/21  Psalm 37:27, Depart from evil, and do good; and dwell for evermore. We hear much about the first two commands (& rightfully so), but not as much about the third. Stay put. Quit getting “happy feet.” Let God move you if/when He wants. You don’t NEED a bigger house/yard/car. Be content.                                  Matthew 25:21, His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord. Think: what has is happening/just happened here that causes this “joy of the Lord”? It is the gathering of His people to Himself. YOU thing YOU wanna get to Heaven...there’s Someone who is a zillion times more anxious for you to get there than you!! (This is worth shouting over!!!)

- Sunday, 2/21/21  Proverbs 16:6a, By mercy and truth iniquity is purged. “Iniquity” is the justification/permission we give ourselves to decide what’s right. Sin can be forgiven immediately; here is the key to changing that erroneous thinking: mercy (confession) and truth (more knowledge of the Word, and applying/doing It.)                              Psalm 37:4, Delight thyself also in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Many of God’s promises are conditional: “if you do that-I will do this.” I’ve also oft heard the term “claiming a promise” like it is the final ingredient to getting God to fulfill His word. But, I don’t know of that term having any scriptural foundation. God’ll do what He said if we fulfill our part. “Flip the switch and the lights come on” whether we hope it happens or not...

- Monday, 2/22/21  Psalm 38:18, For I will declare mine iniquity; I will be sorry for my sin. Whatever the provocation, whatever the tempting pressure...the sin is OUR fault and no one else’s. YOU chose, now YOU confess: the anger, bitterness, lust...whatever your sin is...soap (mercy) only works when used...                            Psalm 110:3, Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power, in the beauties of holiness from the womb of the morning: thou hast the dew of thy youth. There is coming a day when we will truly WANT to be more holy. That IS the future of the saved...so why do we fiddle away our lives with cheap sin and useless pursuits? Maybe a red reset button time...?
