Sunday, 8/24/14 John 9:5 As long as I am
in the world, I am the light of the world. He’s gone...are you doing His
shining? Are you a little Jesus at home? At work? Behind the wheel? At
Wal-mart? Or, are you a little devil? Of whom are people who watch you more
likely to think: Jesus or Satan? Deut
12:8 Ye shall not do after all the things
that we do here this day, every man whatsoever is right in his own eyes. We
all do this a lot. Instead of asking and considering what God wants (WWJD), or
what is best, we eat what we deem right; we drive as we deem right; we
recreate, fornicate, and medicate as we deem best. Our music choices, video choices,
wine, beer, and spirit choices, our church attendance choices, even our divorce
lawyer choices are all as we deem best. Lord have mercy on us.
Monday,
8/25/14 Deut 12:28 Observe and hear all these words which I command thee, that it may go
well with thee, and with thy children after thee for ever, when thou doest that
which is good and right in the sight of the Lord thy God. Just a reminder
that your kids will be blessed or hindered because of your actions TODAY! Matt 27:24 [Pilate] washed his hands before the
multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person. Claiming
ignorance or innocence does not free us from responsibility. Some of you are living in rebellion to
God...be honest. Your claims of “I didn’t know it was wrong” won’t work. Your claims of “Well...the teachers at church
or school who taught me were hypocrites” won’t work. You are no more innocent than Pilate, and
your excuses sound as stupid as his.
Tuesday,
8/26/14 Deut 12:32 What thing soever I command you, observe to do it: thou shalt not add
thereto, nor diminish from it. 1All of the Bible is
important. 2We must pay attention to It in order to obey It. 3To
alter It to fit us is a sin. 4We’re
to change to fit It. John 13:3-11 Jesus
taught the lesson that taking a bath (salvation) doesn’t preclude the need for
washing of our feet (daily cleansing.) In v5 Jesus comes to us and offers to
forgive us, but we must cooperate: agree we’re dirty; allow His cleanings
(i.e. Prov 28:13.)
Wednesday,
8/27/14 John 13:34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have
loved you. How did Jesus love? 1) Because of what He was and not what we
were. 2) He loved first; He initiated
the love. 3) He loves even when there is
no reciprocation. 4) His love prompted
and was shown by actions. Matt
18:21 How oft shall my brother sin
against me, and I forgive him? Till 7 times? Questions we ask: “Is it a sin
to do this?” “What’s wrong with that?” “Can you give chapter and verse...” “How
much do I have to do...? These type of questions indicate that our heart is
seeing how close to wrong we can get vs. how right we could live. Do you ever
ask these or similar ones?
Thursday, 8/28/14 Ps 10:1 Why
standest thou afar off, O Lord? Why hidest thou thyself in times of trouble?
“Is God judging me?” This is a question that all of us have asked. God is able
to get our attention in ways unique to us or common to all, but you’ll know if
it’s Him. Think of Peter in John 21;
Jonah; David in 2 Sam 21; Jacob in Gen 32. Pro 25:2 It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honor of kings is to
search it out. Sounds like God is for homework...for all of us.
Friday,
8/29/14 Ps 3:2 Many there be which say of my soul, There is no help for him in God.
“Is God judging me” is natural (oftentimes unwise, but natural.) However, to
speculate if He’s judging another is arrogance. All of us have plenty to take
care of in our own world. Mark
10:29 ...There is no man that hath left
house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or
lands, for my sake and the gospel’s but he shall receive an hundredfold...
Two truths: #1) It is very possible to
be an (unsaved) “good Christian.” (See Matt 7:21-23.) #2) It is possible to “do right” but to do it
for other than Christ’s sake. People suffer deprivations for the sake of
character, pride, love of a church or person, etc. and Christ is dishonored.
Why do you do what you do?
Saturday,
8/30/14 Pro 25:11 A word
fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver. Do your words
fit: at the right time, in the right way, for the right reason, with the right
tone, to the right person? Are your words pretty? Are they valuable? Ps 86:1 Bow down thine ear, O Lord, hear me: for I
am poor and needy. Does “poor & needy” describe how you see any aspect
of your life (other than your bank balance)? Your capabilities as a spouse?
Friend? Parent? SS teacher? Bible reader? Before you answer, “Yes,” do you echo
what David said and did in v3? Be merciful unto me, O Lord: for I cry unto
thee DAILY.
Thoughts from some others
Rev 4:11 Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power: for thou
hast created all things, anf for thy pleasure they are and were created. We
are here for His pleasure and He alone is worthy of glory, honor, and power!!
Ps 116:11 I said in my haste, All men are liars. We need to guart our tongues
and engage our brain before speaking. I wonder how many times we have said
things we wish we could take back.
Josh 7:6 Joshua rent his clothes, and fell to the earth upon his face fefore the
ark of the Lord until eventide, he and the elders of Israel put dust upon their
heads. Oh for leaders in our nation to be as humble before God and as
repentant towards sin.
Pro 10:26 As vinegar to the teeth and as smoke to the eyes, so is the sluggard to
them that send him. A lazy man irritates and is of little value to anyone.
Ps 119:11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart that I might not sin against thee.
To the degree we hide His words in our heart, to that degree we will hate and
avoid sin.
Ps 119:67 Before I was afflicted I went astray: but now have I kept thy word.
Thank God for the down times when we HAVE to look up. No telling where we’d be
without afflictions. He never says, “Oops.”
