- Tuesday, 5/17/22 Psalm 92:2, To shew forth thy lovingkindness in the morning, and thy faithfulness every night... Is there a way for you to add to the times you meet with God?
We’re to get to where He and His Word are with us “day and night,” so look at your life, and see how to add another “date” with God. Revelation 20:11, And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. Every person who’s ever lived will either witness this scene or be in this scene. This is the final judgment on those who were never born again. The only hope that the lost man has occurs today and depends on how holy believers live and how boldly they witness.
- Wednesday, 5/18/22 Proverbs 15:26b, The words of the pure are pleasant words. The words of the pure are pleasant words. The words of the pure [to a spouse] are pleasant words. The words of the pure [to children] are pleasant words. The words of the pure [at work] are pleasant words. Hmmm... Matthew 26:41, Watch and pray that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. When engulfed by temptation, we usually succumb. Be honest with yourself: how watchful (alert to danger) are you, and how’s your prayer life? The solution is given here; it’s not rocket science.
- Thursday, 5/19/22 2 Peter 2:8, (For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds;) Lot was “torturing” his saved soul by his associations. How often do we set up the same inner conflicts? We accept and tolerate harm to ourselves. 2 Peter 2:10, (referring to the ungodly), But chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government. Presumptuous are they, selfwilled, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities. God says that it is a trait of the ungodly to “despise government.” The word means “to think against, or disesteem” government. In this world of social media, with all of the conspiracy theories abounding: many, many people whom we think are good, godly church going people are considered by Heaven to be “ungodly” because they speak so as to lower the opinion of others concerning government. Are you one of that crowd? (Read v11-12: angels are afraid to do that, and God tells what’s going to happen to those who are like that.)
- Friday, 5/20/22 Acts 19:2, He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. What is the main source of what you believe? If it is what you hear in church or on the radio, you’re in danger. These “heard” from the Bible. No, we are to SEE in the Bible what we believe. Acts 19:9, [After 3 months of hearing preaching], when divers were hardened, and believed not, but spake evil of that way before the multitude, ... The same message will tenderize one while hardening another. The difference? The willingness to admit error and therefore, incorporate changed behavior. Are you different this year over last because of your devotional life and church going? Honestly, are you changing (growing), or simply going through the motions?
- Saturday, 5/21/22 Acts 19:15, And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye? Who in Hell knows you? Have we rattled any of Satan’s cages so as to get noticed? Are we even on the radar of even the lowest level demon? May we all be more zealous of living rightly. Acts 23:3. Then said Paul unto him, God shall smite thee, thou whited wall: for sittest thou to judge me after the law, and commandest me to be smitten contrary to the law? At times, to some degree, all of us have some Pharisee-ism in us. “Do as I say, and not as I do.” Or, “It’s easier to get forgiveness rather than permission.” Are you aware when you violate your own belief system? What do you do when your conscience calls you on your inconsistency? (Ouch!!)
- Sunday, 5/22/22 Luke 1:4, That thou mightest know the certainty of those things, wherein thou hast been instructed. Hearing and being instructed in the things of God is good; having it on paper and seeing it for yourself is better. Do you learn from your Bible reading? (If you need help, ask me. I’ve got schedules I could send, and teaching to help enliven your reading time.) Proverbs 17:3, The fining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold: but the Lord trieth the hearts. 1) Different substances are purified using different means, but each and every commodity is made more valuable. 2) So, don’t be surprised that you go through trials. 3) He has a reason for your trial and the method of purification. 4) The methods used on me may be different than the ones used on you, so we must not judge the other’s situation as being “punishment for sin” or “easier” than ours.
- Monday, 5/23/22 Proverbs 17:15, He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the just, even they both are abomination to the Lord. Wow! I don’t want to be disgusting to God...but have I ever written off another believer? “He’s worthless!” “Not worth my time...” “And he says he’s a preacher (or deacon)!!” “A mockery of Christianity...” “Deserved what he got!! Good for him!!” Hmmm... Zephaniah 1:2, I will utterly consume all things from off the land, saith the Lord. A reminder that the same God who created the cute, fuzzy puppy gave fangs to the rattlesnake; the same One who sends the rain that produces the beautiful lily sends the volcano that burned and buried Pompeii. If all you know about God is that He ‘said’ “Don’t judge others,” and “love everybody,” then you don’t have God, you have Oprah Winfrey. The same God who promises Heaven to those who are “born again,” promises Hell to those who think they know a different way. The God of mercy is also the God of judgment. Get your theology from the source: His pure Word (that’s the KJV for the English world.)
