Bible Thoughts by Terry Hedderman

Sunday, 7/6/14  Gen 37:5 And Joseph dreamed a dream, and he told it his brethren: and they hated him yet the more. Joseph would’ve saved himself much heartache if he would’ve learned this: Just because something enters your head doesn’t mean it should leave your mouth.         In Gen 31:7, Jacob is mentioning God for the first time in 20 years and he realizes that God has paid attention to Him even though he’s ignored God. And your father hath deceived me, and changed my wages 10x; but God suffered him not to hurt me. Hallelujah!!! What a Saviour!! Dear friend, you’ve not been off of His mind...EVER!!!

Monday, 7/7/14  Pro 6:6 Go to the ant thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise. Concerning work and insects, I came across this statement: bees are known for being busy, but they always take time to smell the flowers. Enjoy your work and help your peers enjoy it too.           Gen 39:2 And the Lord was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian. Notice the order: 1) God’s presence, 2) prosperity, 3) situation. Maybe if we’d focus more on Him and not the situation, we’d be a lot happier.

Tuesday, 7/8/14  Gen 39:2 And the Lord was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian. God’s presence doesn’t mean “no problems.”  “Prosperous” doesn’t mean stable, nice surroundings. Problems don’t always indicate God’s disfavor.                   Gen 42:21a And they said one to another, We are verily guilty concerning our brother... Do your problems ever cause you to admit guilt, or is always just “bad luck,” or “God’s picking on me,” or “God doesn’t like me”? Let hard times change you.

Wednesday, 7/9/14  Gen 39:3 And his master saw that the Lord was with him, and that the Lord made all that he did to prosper in his hand. Regardless of how spiritual you feel/don’t feel you are, what is the opinion of those around you? Do they feel you’re spiritual? Hypocritical? Inconsistent? Sincere? Mean-spirited?             Matt 22:11-12 And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment: and he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless. Soul winners: be SURE that you are careful and thorough. Present the problem, the penalty, the Person, and the plan. Remember the plan is simple faith: not a prayer. This wedding guest THOUGHT he was prepared...some soul winner had not been thorough with him.

Thursday, 7/10/14  Gen 39:7 And it came to pass, after these things, that his master’s wife cast her eyes upon Joseph. With new levels come new devils. Increased usefulness brings more and extra attacks, or the attacks may mean the Devil feels scared you will be promoted.                 Matt 24:36 But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. In His human body, Jesus was not omniscient, omnipresent, nor omnipotent. (He got hungry, tired, needed strength, and here, didn’t know when He would come back.) Though He was still 100% God, He acted as though He weren’t. If you close your eyes, though you’re not blind, you cannot see. Jesus “closed His eyes” to his “God-ness” until after the Resurrection. That way, He could be our example of a Spirit-filled, Spirit-led human.

Friday, 7/11/14  Ps 51:1 Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions. Don’t ever “mature” past realizing that you are absolutely vile and wicked, and that your ONLY merit is God’s lovingkindness and tender mercy.             Ps 50:1, 3, 6 The mighty God...Our God shall come, and shall not keep silence: a fire shall devour before him, and it shall be very tempestuous round about him...for god is judge himself. “The Good Shepherd,” the “One Who lays down His life for His sheep,” the One Who “won’t quench a smoking flax” has another, more fierce side. Our reaction to His gentle overtures will determine what role He’ll play next.

Saturday, 7/12/14  Josh 9:9 And they said unto him, From a very far country thy servants are come... The Gibeonites lied and the Israelites made a treaty under false pretenses. In our day, that would void the contract. However, God made them keep their word.              Pro 8:35 For whoso findeth [wisdom] findeth life. Do you need an infusion of LIFE into your life? Does your marriage? SS class? Business? Relationship with God?  Then overdose on wisdom. V34. Blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors. Maybe read all 31 chapters weekly for a month, and then read the chapter that corresponds with the date for the rest of your life.
Thoughts from some others
Ps 56:8 Thou tellest my wanderings: put thou my tears into thy bottle: are they not in thy book?  God takes note of broken hearts. He never turns a deaf ear to our prayers water with tears.
Ps 60:12 Through God we shall do valiantly: for he it is that shall tread down our enemies. We should not worry and fret over world conditions or political and economic problems here. Our God is still in control and will make it turn out all right.
1 Pet 5:7 Casting all your care upon him, for he careth for you. What an awesome truth--that God would care about me and is concerned about all of my burdens and cares.
Deut 24:19-21 Verses give explicit instructions for care of the poor. Not a handout, but a way by which he could get food for himself and his family. Maybe America and it’s politicians ought to try it today. No one ever benefits from handouts that did not require some personal effort.
Pro 21:21 He that followeth after righteousness and mercy findeth life, righteousness, and honor. It pays to live righteously and follow a godly path.
Pro 11:22 As a jewel of gold in a swine’s snout, so is a fair woman without discretion. The more God-given physical beauty a lady has, the more careful she must be. There is much more to beauty than outward appearance.
Ps 68:11 The Lord gave the word: great was the company of those that published it.  What an awesome, wonderful opportunity!! We get to proclaim and preach God’s eternal words every day!!
