Bible thoughts by Terry Hedderman

- Tuesday, 1/4/22  Psalm 77:1, I cried unto God with my voice...and he gave ear unto me. We all bemoan times when our prayers weren’t answered, but fail to

repeatedly rejoice when they are. God HEARS us!!!! Let’s resolve to talk to Him more and learn how to do it more effectively.                                   What was it that made David so attractive to God, and how could we be like him so as to be like Him? 2 Samuel 1:23, Saul and Jonathan were lovely and pleasant in their lives, and in their death they were not divided: they were swifter than eagles, they were stronger than lions. Perhaps He caught God’s attention because, in large part, he looked at the entirety of a life when passing judgment on Saul. Overall, Saul was a good man, notwithstanding how he treated David.

- Wednesday, 1/5/22  2 Samuel 3:6, ...while there was war between the house of Saul and the house of David, that Abner made himself strong for the house of Saul. Take advantage of your negative circumstances. They can either make you stronger or make you cower.                                  Make someone’s day: brag on them to their leaders or peers.  Romans 16:1, I commend unto you Phebe our sister, which is a servant of the church which is at Cenchrea... Everyone needs to have another say their efforts are recognized, appreciated, noteworthy, and that they themselves are exemplary.

- Thursday. 1/6/22  2 Samuel 5:10, And David went on, and grew great, and the Lord God of hosts was with him. We are conditioned that all things can come almost instantly. However, good character traits come gradually: we’ve got to grow into greatness. Wait for it...do rightly...wait...just a little longer...                           Romans 16:17, Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them. Good advice in the social media age. No one’s opinion is ever changed by a clever quip or a meme. Shut up and save your breath. Never argue with a fool (and one who won’t at least listen to differing opinions, especially from those more knowledgeable than themselves is a fool.)

- Friday, 1/7/22  1 Corinthians 2:10, But God hath revealed [His secrets] unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. How to make open the Bible to yourself?  Get/let the Holy Spirit to reveal them. Pray for open eyes & ears and submit your heart before reading.                                Psalm 78:1, Give ear, O my people, to my law: incline your ears to the words of my mouth. Oh Lord!! Please open my ears to Your Word in 2022! And help me to submit to what I hear and read from Your Word.

- Saturday, 1/8/22  Proverbs 31:3, Give not thy strength unto women, nor thy ways to that which destroyeth kings. It might be wise to honestly evaluate any/all self-destructive habits we have. (Evaluate our habits in light of the Scripture. Get His opinion on them.)                          Psalm 81:13-14, Oh that my people had hearkened unto me, and Israel had walked in my ways! I should SOON have subdued their enemies, and turned my hand against their adversaries. God SSSOOOO wants to bless us and intervene in our lives for our good...and we hinder Him SSSOOOOO often. Hearken to His word and walk in His ways. The answer's in the Book: take a look.

- Sunday, 1/9/22  Matthew 26:22, And they were exceeding sorrowful, and began every one of them to say unto him, Lord, is it I? Oh may each of us be VERY aware of our GREAT potential for failing the Master. Walk humbly my friend and walk scared.                                  2 Samuel 13:14, Howbeit he would not hearken unto her voice: but, being stronger than she, forced her, and lay with her. Amnon’s sin didn’t start here with the raping of his half-sister. Behind every sinful tragedy is a pattern of wicked thinking. So, what would you “never actually do,” but you “harmlessly” think about? Stop it in your head before calamity occurs in your life...and another’s.

- Monday, 1/10/22  2 Samuel 13:39, And the soul of king David longed to go forth unto Absalom: for he was comforted concerning Amnon, seeing he was dead. David, please don’t wait for Absalom to make the first step towards reconciliation. Do what you can do...reach out and try to mend the fence.                         1 Corinthians 5:1, It is reported commonly that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his father's wife. A reminder that every born-again believer is capable of committing every sin that the unsaved are capable of. Walk carefully, and prayerfully, my friend.
