Bible Thoughts by Terry Hedderman

Wednesday, 7/20/16  Ps 137:1, By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down, yea, we wept, when we remembered Zion. You COULD lose all that you hold dear: marriage, family, reputation, business, church. Work on and pray over it like it is already teetering. Better to work and pray today than to mourn tomorrow.          Zeph 2:3, Seek ye the Lord, all ye meek of the earth, which have wrought his judgment; seek righteousness, seek meekness: it may be ye shall be hid in the day of the Lord’s anger. You’ve done the will of God...but be sure that you’re still seeking H-I-M. And seek to do more good.

Thursday, 7/21/16  Ps 80:3, Turn us again, O God, and cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved. If God is on your side, what else matters? If God’s not on your side, what else matters? So...is He supportive of what you’re doing today? Is He pleased with how you are living? Would He want some changes?                    Zech 8:16-17, These are the things that ye shall do; speak ye every man the truth to his neighbor; execute the judgment of truth and preach in your gates: and let none of you imagine evil in your hearts against his neighbor; and love no false oath: for all these are things that I hate, saith the Lord. Easy enough to say...now do it.

Friday, 7/22/16  Gen 6:9, Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God. I don’t know of any other single sentence in the Bible that gives such high praise: Noah was saved; he did right consistently over his whole life; and he walked with God. How would God summarize you in one sentence?             Pro 14:1, Every wise woman buildeth her house: but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands. Ma’am, are you building/repairing your house? Keeping (guarding) the home (Titus 2:5)? Remember that you are “meet” (fitted) to your husband; you were made to fill in where he’s lacking; (not to criticize his faults, but to complete him.) Don’t selfishly look at the problems you must deal with: that’s your purpose.

Saturday, 7/23/16  Neh 8:9b, ...This day is holy unto the Lord your God; mourn not, nor weep. For all the people wept when they heard the words of the law. When was the last time you wept because of your Bible reading? Maybe we need to add that to our list of sins to confess...           Ps 78:37-38, For their heart was not right with him...but he being full of compassion, forgave their iniquity...yea, many a time turned he his anger away, and did not stir up all his wrath. Someone’s heart doesn’t have to be right toward you for you to forgive them. The ball is in your court...

Sunday, 7/24/16  Matt 6:1-16:  When thou doest thine alms...prayest...fast... Jesus gave instructions to His disciples about HOW to do these three actions. It is assumed that a disciples does each of them. Are you a disciple? Do you? Maybe you need to take a step up and do a little more...                         Matt 7:8, For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened1Be persistent in your prayers, but, 2while asking for your request, be attentive to hear if God is giving you feedback on the matter: “Quit praying: the answer is ‘No.’” “If you’ll alter your prayer to ______, I’ll answer that.”  “Before I can grant your request, you need to correct ______.”

Monday, 7/25/16  Matt 9:2, ...they brought to him a man sick of the palsy...Jesus...said...Son, be of good cheer... Being willing to be cheerful IN your affliction may often be a prerequisite to getting the affliction lifted. (Being thankful and rejoicing always ARE commandments, you know.)              Pro 21:23, Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles. “Speak what’s on your heart...”  NOOO! Your heart is “desperately wicked.” Your mind is corrupted. Silence is golden.

Bible thoughts from some others:
- Ps 27:1, The Lord is my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life: of whom shall I be afraid? There is never a need for a child of God to run scared.
- Ps 84:11, For the Lord is a sun and shield: the Lord will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from that that walk uprightly. It pays to serve the Lord and live a life that’s pleasing to Him.
- Pro 2:21-22, For the upright shall dwell in the land, and the perfect shall remain in it. But the wicked shall be cut off from the earth, and transgressors shall be rooted out of it. We need to worry about living godly separated lives, and God will take care of destroying the wicked.
- Pro 8:34, Blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors. If we would be blessed of the Lord, we must be willing to listen to the preaching of God’s words and daily, with attentive expectation, read its truths.
- Ps 92:5, O Lord, how great are thy works! And thy thoughts are very deep. PTL for the greatness of our God and for a copy of His deep thoughts!!
- John 6:66, From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him. True discipleship is revealed when adversity comes.
- John8:47, He that is of God heareth God’s words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God. A good measure of our faith and godliness is our attitude toward His words!
