Each summer First Baptist Church in Hammond runs a two day kids' conference. This has replaced the four day VBS. From 10AM until 2:30PM on Saturday there is a giant program featuring outdoor games, inflateables etc, and also sessions in the auditorium with Preacher and special Power Club characters. A skit is presented that is highly entertaining and teaches a character lesson. The catch is, to find out what happens, the kids must come back Sunday. On Sunday all of the kids join the church choir and sing a song. Then a recap of the skit is presented and the conclusion is performed. Bro. Schaap preaches a message specifically for the kids, but that is applicable to everyone. Many kids and adults were saved and baptized this morning!
Our traditional VBS program usually attracted a total of about 1,500 kids. The Power Club, whch is for kids through fifth grade reaches arount 3,500! Many parents of the kids come on Sunday to see and hear their children sing in "that big church".
