“I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.”
Nobody is blessed on accident. Whenever you see a person who is blessed, you must never
think that they are lucky because being blessed is the result of an action. The action that blesses people is giving. God says, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” This is not a phrase that should only be used for giving to the church financially because this verse means much more than that. This phrase is God’s principle for giving. It is the principle of giving anything that leads to being blessed. However, this phrase also gives several mindsets you must have towards giving if you want to be blessed. Let me share these mindsets with you.
First, you should receive to give. The purpose of receiving is not to keep, but the purpose of receiving is to give what you have received. In other words, you are a conduit. Often when you purchase something, you are purchasing it from the middleman. You are not purchasing that product from the maker, but from someone who purchased it from the maker. Likewise, you should be the middleman to others and keep the mindset that whatever you receive, you receive to give.
Second, you should give to receive. In other words, you receive so that you can give, but you give so that you can receive and give it again. Your purpose of giving should never be to receive and keep but to receive and give. When you realize that the only way to receive is through giving, you then realize that you can’t give to others unless you receive; therefore, you must give to receive so that you can give again.
Third, you should give to be blessed. There is nothing wrong with having a desire to be blessed of God, but the only way God is going to bless you is if you give. If you want God’s blessings on your life, you are going to have to be a giver of what you have. If I can put it another way, if you are going to be blessed, you are going to have to be the middle-person.
Fourth, you should always remember that you are blessed to give. God doesn’t bless you because you are a great person; God blesses you because you choose to give. It is a mindset that it is a blessing to give. The people whom God has blessed the most are the people who realize that everything God has given them is a tool to give to someone else to help others.
Fifth, you should receive to bless. Let me bring all of these statements down to this one point, and that is that you receive so that you can be a blessing to others. You will never find joy in life by living for yourself, but you discover joy by being the conduit God uses to bless others. You don’t give to have joy, but you give to help others and to be a blessing to them, but while you are giving, you will discover joy and fulfillment.
Let me ask you, are you living your life for yourself, or are you living your life to be a blessing to others? When you die to self is when you find the life for which you have been seeking. Your goal in life should never be about how much you can accumulate, but it should be about how much God has allowed to pass through your life to be a blessing to others. You will find that God will give you more than you could desire when you choose to be His conduit to others.
