According to People, schools in the UK are removing analog clocks from classrooms — because kids can’t read them. So, do they teach the students how to tell time the old-fashioned way? No. They give up. “The current generation aren’t as good at reading the traditional clock face as older generations,” explains Malcolm Trobe, deputy general secretary at the Association of School and College Leaders in England. According to The [UK] Telegraph, many high school students “were only able to tell time on digital devices.” What are they going to do next, take down Big Ben?
This is nuts. Analog clocks are still in use all over the world. Instead of using taxpayer money to replace clocks, it’s high time high school students learned how to give someone the time of day. First it was millennials unable to add or subtract without a calculator, then it was banning cursive writing, and now it’s removing clocks. School administrators should have their clocks cleaned. Teachers need to lay off the 64 genders lesson plans, and start in with “when the big hand is on the 12 and the little hand is on the 1…” What would it take, 15 minutes? Time’s up for stupid.
