Finding Fault with Perfection

Mark 3:2

"And they watched him, whether he would heal him on the sabbath day; that they might accuse him."

One would think it to be hard to find fault with Jesus Christ. Jesus is the sinless Son of God. Finding fault with whatever Jesus did would seem to be impossible. Yet, the Pharisees found a way to find fault in Jesus. Albeit, what they considered a fault was truly a personal problem they had with Jesus. Finding fault in perfection was detrimental to the Pharisees. What would cause people to find fault with Jesus?

First, they found fault with Him because they were jealous of Him. It says in verse 6 that they wanted to destroy Him. It didn't matter what good Jesus did, because they wanted to destroy Him and any influence He had. Their jealousy blinded them from the good He did. Their jealousy caused them to look at Jesus through a skewed perception. Jealousy was one of the things that caused them to find fault with perfection.

Second, they found fault with perfection because their hearts were hard. The truths Jesus taught were falling on deaf ears because they had hard hearts. Because they couldn't hear His truths, the only thing they could do was find fault with everything. Their fault finding expedition was based upon their perception of truth and not upon the true measure of truth which is the Word of God.

Third, they found fault with perfection because they disagreed with Jesus' philosophy. Jesus healing someone on the Sabbath day went against their beliefs. Though they tried to say they were serving God, their way of serving Him was based upon their philosophy. It didn't matter how much truth Jesus gave to them, their philosophy caused them to be blinded to truth. Thus, this is why they were able to find fault with perfection. Their stubbornness caused them not to see truth.

Fourth, they found fault with perfection because they disliked the personality of Jesus Christ. They were so blinded to truth because they hated Jesus and all that He did. Any truth they heard was silenced by their hatred. Their preconceived hateful thoughts of Christ is what drove them to find fault in perfection.

Friend, I point this out to you because many times these same things will cause us to find fault in perfection. These things can cause us to miss the truth from a man of God whom we dislike. We don't dislike him because he is doctrinally wrong, we dislike him for one of the reasons mentioned above and this causes us to miss any good that we could learn from him.

Many people who have grown cold towards their church can find themselves finding fault with everything their church does all because these things mentioned above are driving their thought process. Instead of seeing the good of a big day, we find fault with a big day. Instead of seeing the power of God working, we find the fault with everything.

Furthermore, many families find fault with each other because of disagreements or hardened hearts. Oftentimes married couples are too busy finding fault with their spouse just because they've been hurt by them. It doesn't matter what good their spouse does, they miss it because they're busy finding fault. Children miss the good of their parents because they disagree with how their parents reared them.

Let me encourage you not to be a person who is a fault finder. You can miss many good truths that can be helpful if you are a fault finder. Instead of filling your relationships with fault finding, fill them with seeing the good of who they are and what they do. This will help you to get the most from each relationship.
