A Gift in Time of Evil
1 Chronicles 7:23
“And when he went in to his wife, she conceived, and bare a son, and
he called his name Beriah, because it went evil with his house.”
Ephraim had an unexpected heartache happen.
Fleeing
1 Chronicles 10:7
“And when all the men of Israel that were in the valley saw that they
fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, then they forsook their
cities, and fled: and the Philistines came and dwelt in them.”
The sad part about these people fleeing is that the Philistines didn’t know that Saul had died.
Joshua 8:17
“And there was not a man left in Ai or Bethel, that went not out
after Israel: and they left the city open, and pursued after Israel.”
The verse above is what led to the destruction of the city of Ai. Israel lost its first battle against this city because of
Joshua 6:18
“And ye, in any wise keep yourselves from the accursed thing, lest ye
make yourselves accursed, when ye take of the accursed thing, and make
the camp of Israel a curse, and trouble it.”
If you have ever been around explosive material, you will always see warning signs around the explosives. Often,
Joshua 16:10
“And they drave not out the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer: but the
Canaanites dwell among the Ephraimites unto this day, and serve under
tribute.”
One of the things that separated Joshua and Caleb from the rest of Israel was their drive to
Joshua 23:14
“And, behold, this day I am going the way of all the earth: and ye
know in all your hearts and in all your souls, that not one thing hath
failed of all the good things which the LORD your God spake concerning
you; all are come to pass unto you, and not one thing hath failed
thereof.”
When I was a young boy, I always enjoyed
Judges 9:33
“And it shall be, that in the morning, as soon as the sun is up, thou shalt rise early, and set upon the city: and, behold, when he and the people that is with him come out against thee, then mayest thou do to them as thou shalt find occasion.”
The fact that you have an opportunity to do something doesn’t mean
1 Samuel 13:8
“And he tarried seven days, according to the set time that Samuel had
appointed: but Samuel came not to Gilgal; and the people were scattered
from him.”
The verse above has always troubled me because of how Saul did wrong because of
1 Samuel 17:20
“And David rose up early in the morning, and left the sheep with a
keeper, and took, and went, as Jesse had commanded him; and he came to
the trench, as the host was going forth to the fight, and shouted for
the battle.”
You would be hard-pressed to find a person who doesn’t enjoy the story about
Genesis 16:4
“And he went in unto Hagar, and she conceived: and when she saw that she had conceived, her mistress was despised in her eyes.”
The verse above is nothing more than a person who had a guilty conscience about
