Acts 8:29
"Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot."
Philip must have wondered why God wanted him to leave a great revival meeting in Samaria to go to the desert. You would think that God would be pleased with those being saved in Samaria, but what didn't make sense with Philip certainly made complete sense to God. What Philip did not know at the timing of God's command to go to the desert was that there was a man who needed to be saved in the desert. Had Philip resisted the leading of the Holy Spirit, this great soul-winning experience that we all enjoy reading would have never happened.
Great soul-winning experiences are never planned, but they happen when someone listens to the Holy Spirit. One such experience happened to me in Panama. I was preaching for my good friend, Missionary Byron Willis, and we were visiting a part of his ministry that fed needy children. We were about to leave and Bro. Willis suggested that we walk through a settlement where many poor people live. This settlement was on land that had raw sewage running through it and probably underneath it. We were almost to the road when I saw a young lady walking towards the town with a hat and a covering that covered her head. The Holy Spirit prodded me to go and invite her to the services that night. I'm glad I listened! After inviting the young lady to church, I had the opportunity to lead her to Jesus Christ. It was after I led her to Christ that I found out that she had been fighting stomach cancer for two years. She was only thirteen years of age with a life threatening disease. There is no doubt the Holy Spirit led me across her path.
You will never have soul-winning experiences like these and many others if you are not first focused upon listening to the Holy Spirit's leading. Many Christians miss great soul-winning experiences just because they won't follow the leading of the Holy Spirit. If the Holy Spirit is leading you to do something that doesn't truly make sense, you would be wise to listen to Him for He has a purpose for leading you.
Moreover, when the Holy Spirit leads, keep your eyes open. What I mean by this statement is that as you follow the prodding of the Holy Spirit, you also need to look out for people who are coming across your path. You don't know who that person may be, so you just need to talk to everyone along the path. Trust me, you can't talk to the wrong person about the Gospel. You will find the person the Holy Spirit wants you to talk to if you will talk to everyone you see.
Furthermore, stop looking for great soul-winning experiences and just be a soul winner. Great soul-winning experiences happen because you are soul-winning. Those who tell of their great soul winning experiences probably had hundreds of others whom they led to Christ that would not be considered a "great" soul-winning experience. Hold on! Every person who gets saved is a great soul winning experience, it's just that some tug on the heart strings a little more than others.
Every Christian would love to have great soul-winning experiences, but they will only happen if you start soul winning. Stop waiting for the right opportunity and realize that every opportunity to tell someone about Jesus Christ is the right opportunity. If you will be a soul winner all the time, then you will find your own great soul winning experiences that you can talk about.
