2 Samuel 6:12
"And it was told king David, saying, The LORD hath blessed the house of Obededom, and all that pertaineth unto him, because of the ark of God. So David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obededom into the city of David with gladness."
For three months David saw how the LORD blessed Obededom's household because of the presence of the Ark of the Covenant.
He originally wanted the ark to reside in the city where he dwelt, but it was placed in the house of Obededom because he moved it in a wrong manner and a man lost his life.
For three months David watched God's blessings on Obededom. Those three months were difficult because David wanted those blessings on his own life. You could say that David was jealous for God's blessings. It wasn't that he didn't want Obededom to be blessed, but it was that he wanted those blessings himself. It wasn't that he wasn't happy for Obededom, but it was that he desired those same blessings in his own household.
The desire for God's blessings on your life should be so great that you are jealous for them. Jealousy is not wrong as long as you are jealous for the right reason. Have you seen God's blessings on someone's life and that moved you to be jealous to have the same blessings? Again, it's not that you don't want them to be blessed, it is simply that you want the same blessings on your life. Look at what David did to get those same blessings on his life.
First, David didn't think that he couldn't have the same blessings. When you see someone else whom God is blessing, don't ever think that you can't have the same blessings yourself. God placed that person in your life so you could see them being blessed so that it would whet your appetite to desire the same blessings. God's blessings are for everyone, and He wanted you to see them so you would pursue them.
Second, David acted and did what it took to have the same blessings of Obededom. God doesn't bless someone for no reason. That person did something that caused God to bless them. You must find out what they did and do the same thing. You will find that living in the presence of God will always bring His blessings. The ark was symbolic of God's presence, and David knew if it was in his city that God would bless his household. Living in God's presence always brings His blessings. If you will stay away from sin and serve Him, then you can be assured of His blessings. It is not to say that blessings will come easy, but it is saying that blessings will come if you are willing to put the time, effort and fortitude to get those blessings and endure the hardness necessary to receive them.
Third, David didn't take God's blessings for granted. When God begins to bless you, don't take them for granted. Always remember that those blessings can be taken away as quickly as God gives them. Whatever it took for you to receive the blessings of God, then you must continue to do the same things to keep them. When you have God's blessings, be thankful to God that He blessed you. God's grace is the only reason why He blessed you, and you should never take that for granted.
Are you jealous for the blessings of God? Then don't just be jealous and do nothing about it, but pursue those blessings on your life. God wants to bless you, but you must be willing to pay the same price that others paid to have them. Let someone else's blessings be the motivating factor in your life to pursue them yourself. My question for you is, are you willing to move beyond being jealous for God's blessings and to pay the price to receive them? If you are, then you will do what it takes to receive them.
