1 Chronicles 28:8
"Now therefore in the sight of all Israel the congregation of the LORD, and in the audience of our God, keep and seek for all the commandments of the LORD your God: that ye may possess this good land, and leave it for an inheritance for your children after you for ever."
People often talk about the legacy that someone leaves.
Presidents desire to leave a legacy that will be remembered. Many pastors have the desire to leave a legacy for which their name will be remembered for generations to come. Many people strive to leave a good legacy.
God showed the children of Israel how they could leave a legacy. Not just a legacy that would last for one or two generations, but a legacy that would last forever. That is an amazing legacy to leave. A person should desire to leave a multigenerational legacy that their family and followers will use for the rest of their lives. Let me show you what it takes to leave a multigenerational legacy.
First, you must keep the commandments of the LORD. It says in the verse above, "keep...all the commandments of the LORD your God." God is teaching that we are to keep all the commandments that we do know. We often hear how there is so much of the Scriptures that we don't know, but God is addressing what we do know. You will never leave a multigenerational legacy unless you keep the commandments that you already know. Not just the one's that you want to follow, but all of the commandments.
Second, you must seek the commandments that you don't know so that you can keep them. It is interesting that God said to "seek for all the commandments of the LORD your God." This is not what the average Christian would do. God previously tells us to keep what we do know, but seek for those commandments that we don't know. There is a reason God says this. The reason is because it will reveal the heart of a Christian. A person who is seeking to know all of the LORD's commandments is a person who has a heart to please God. This type of person is well on their way to leaving a multigenerational legacy.
Third, pursue what God has called you to do. God told Israel to "possess" the land that He had given them. This is doing God's will for your life. You will not leave a multigenerational legacy if you let things sidetrack you from what God placed you on this Earth to do. Find God's will for your life and do it. Don't let petty things, or things that do not pertain to God's will for your life pull you away from His will. Those who leave a multigenerational legacy are those who found God's will and did it their entire life.
Fourth, teach the next generation to keep and seek all of the LORD's commandments and to obey His will for their life. This is the key to the multigenerational legacy. Don't just do these things yourself, but train your children, grandchildren and those whom you lead to do these things. Every Christian should always be training the next generation to do these things.
God promises if we do these things that we will leave a legacy that lives forever. That is a multigenerational legacy. Our homes and churches should have the desire and purpose of leaving a multigenerational legacy. Are you doing your part to leave a multigenerational legacy? If you truly want your life to make an impact, then live your life in such a way that you leave a multigenerational legacy.
