- Tuesday, 12/11/18 Think
of a young lover missing a sweetheart: the physical ache of a heart. Psalm
119:20, My soul breaketh for the longing
that it hath unto thy judgments at all times. However good each of us truly
is as a Christian, methinks we all have a LONG way to go before we can quit
repenting over our current status and quit striving to improve and quit finding
fault in others.
-Tuesday, 12/4/18 Proverbs 29:1, He, that being often reproved hardeneth his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy. The warning is obvious, but something praiseworthy: He reproves us multiple times before escalating His disapproval. (We should do the same to our followers.)
- Tuesday, 11/27/18 Luke
24:6, He is not here, but is risen:
remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee... Those who’ve
been in church for very long usually just need reminders and encouragement.
That’s what I try to do with these texts. Whom could you remind and encourage? Luke 24:45, Then opened he their understanding, that
they might understand the scriptures...
Psalm 119:18, Open thou mine eyes,
that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law. We can’t do any part of
the Christian life very efficiently, if at all, without His direct
intervention. Pray Psalm 119:18 before you read...I promise that it’ll help you.
- Sunday, 11/18/18 John
7:24, Judge not according to the
appearance, but judge righteous judgment. Here, we’re not to judge with eye
information; and since our heart is “desperately
wicked,” we can’t judge with our hearts. What’s left? A Spirit led,
submissive spirit. Are you asking for His fullness often?
- Tuesday, 11/13/18 Psalm
4:1c, Have mercy upon me, and hear my
prayer. Theologically we know that we don’t deserve the Almighty to hear
and answer us, that any answer is solely because of mercy, yet we still get
very bent out of shape when He doesn’t jump to attention when we talk. Shame on
us...on me. Lord, I need some mercy...
- Tuesday, 11/6/18
Proverbs 29:27, An unjust man is
an abomination to the just: and he that is upright in the way is abomination to
the wicked. How many “abominable” things have you encountered lately? I’m
guessing, if we’d be honest, we’d have to say that we’re much more tolerant of
sin than we’d like to admit.
- Tuesday, 10/30/18
Proverbs 22:1, A good name is
rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and
gold. More pointed questions: how diligent are you with your money? How’s
your credit rating? Promptness at paying? (If the answers beg for improvement,
you know what to do.) OK...however diligent, fastidious you are about your
money, are you more so about your name? (Ouch...)
- Tuesday, 10/23/18 Read
Lucifer’s description in Ezekiel 28. However, notice him by the time we see
him: Isaiah 14:16, They that see thee shall narrowly look upon
thee, and consider thee, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to
tremble, that did shake kingdoms... Lesson? Sin destroys natural beauty.
- Tuesday, 9/25/18 Daniel
12:3, And they that be wise shall shine
as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as
the stars for ever and ever. (Dr. Hyles’ life’s verse.) Are you a soul
winner? A hundred years from now, the only thing that’ll matter is that we’re
saved, and did “they” get saved.
