Ezekiel 28:17
“Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee.”
Maybe, the most blessed being in history was Lucifer. He was created and placed in Heaven. He was the perfection of beauty and filled with wisdom. He was an anointed cherub and also had a voice that was like none other. He had the privilege of living in the presence of God and seeing the beauty of Heaven. He was certainly among the most blessed in history.
Sadly, the blessings of Lucifer became his curse. The verse above says, “Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty…” The very beauty that God gave him became his source of pride. His wisdom became corrupted because of the brightness of his image. The blessings that God gave him became his curse.
What would cause his blessings to become his curse? His blessings became his curse when he changed his focus to the blessings instead of the source of those blessings. When he dwelt on his beauty instead of thanking God for making him that way, that is when his blessings became a curse. When he focused on his own wisdom instead of realizing from where that wisdom came, that is when his blessings became a curse. Simply put, his blessings became a curse to him once he thought he was the source of those blessings.
One would wonder how anyone could ever forget where blessings come from, but when you look horizontally at the blessing instead of vertically from where they came is when you’ll think you made them happen. It all comes down to the viewpoint. Dwelling on the blessings instead of the source of the blessings will make one believe they are great.
Christian, you must be careful not to turn your blessings into a curse. Everything you have came from God. Your physical features were given to you by God, and you must never focus so much on them that they turn your focus away from God and become your curse. Any beauty that you have should be a reflection of God’s beauty in your life. This society has become so beauty driven that we have turned the blessings of beauty into a curse.
Moreover, you must remember that all wisdom comes from God. Many people have cursed themselves because they thought they were the source of wisdom. Always keep wisdom in proper perspective as to how you obtained it. James 1:5 makes it clear that God is the giver of wisdom. Never become so enamored with your own wisdom that you forget from where it came.
Don’t forget that God can quickly turn your blessings into a curse when you lose focus. Lucifer’s wisdom was corrupted because he thought he was the source of wisdom. Any blessing that God has given you can easily be corrupted when you stop realizing the source of your blessings. Many people have been blessed financially only to see those blessings become their curse. Many people have been blessed physically only to see the physical blessings become a curse.
If you will simply let your blessings be a channel for God to use, your blessings will then continue. However, the very moment you stop being that channel is the moment your blessings will become a curse.
