2 Corinthians 1:20
"For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us."
The promises of God are often the focus of many Christians. When you are going through hard times, you look to the promises of God to help you not to give up. When needing a miracle, you look to the promises of God to receive hope that He will come through. When looking at our salvation, we look to the promise that God will save us to give us the security we need as a believer.
The promises that we need are found throughout the Scriptures. You must realize that every verse in the Scriptures is a promise of God. God's promises are His Word. One of the reasons it's important to have an every word Bible is so that we can rest in the promises of God. In the verse above, we find out what these promises mean.
First, we find out that these promises are absolute in God. God says, "For all the promises of God in him are yea..." There are a couple things you will notice about this statement. First, you will notice that God says, "all the promises." God did not say some of the promises are "yea," but He says all of His promises are "yea." Second, God is showing that His promises are absolute. The word "yea" means an absolute. God did not say, "Maybe." God says, "yea."
Friend, God's promises are absolute. In other words, you can depend upon them because they are true. Not just one part of God's Word is true, but every word is true. God is saying that His promises are clear and it is not left up to the believer to figure out with their conscience what they mean, but they are plainly understood so the Christian can rest in them. God's promises are an anchor that every Christian can rest upon.
Second, God's promises are good. The verse above says that God's promises are "Amen." In other words, they are good. Isn't it good to know that God wants the best for you? Every promise God gives is good. The goodness of these promises is not reliant upon what we think is good, but they are reliant upon what God knows is good. It can be hard to see that God's promises are good when going through rough times. The goodness of God's promises will never be based upon a Christian's opinion; instead, they are based upon God's knowledge of goodness. Whatever you are facing, you can know that God's promises are good for you because God says they are good.
Third, God's promises are waiting for you to fulfill their purpose. What is the purpose of God's promises? The purpose is for God to receive glory. If you will live in the promises of God, then you will see that God will get the glory. This is what makes the promises of God good. If God receives the glory, then they are good; however, you must obey God's promises for God to receive the glory.
Christian, it is so easy to give up on the promises of God when going through rough times, but you must trust in the trustworthiness of God that His promises will be fulfilled in your life. If you quit before God receives the glory, then you will never see the goodness of His promise. I challenge you to patiently wait on God to fulfill His promise through you so you can see the goodness of His promises. Many people in the Scriptures had to wait for several years to see the goodness of God's promises, but they patiently waited until God fulfilled His promises. Always remember that God has never failed in one promise, and He won't fail with what He promised to do through you.
