Hebrews 10:23
"Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)"
God commands us to "hold fast the profession of our faith..." You will notice that we are not only commanded in the Scriptures to hold onto the faith, but we are to profess our faith. In other words, God wants us to tell others about our faith and what we believe.
He continues by saying that we are to profess our faith "without wavering." The word "wavering" means, fluctuating, without doubt or never moving. In other words, God doesn't ever want us to move on our profession of our faith. We should never be in a situation where we hold back talking about our faith because of an unfriendly crowd. We are to boldly profess our faith and not waver. How do we develop an unwavering faith that has no doubt, does not fluctuate and never moves?
First, verse 24 tells us to provoke others to love and good works. This is simply discipling people about the faith. One of the greatest ways to get the confidence in your faith so that it doesn't waver is to teach someone else about it. When you teach someone else, it makes you study and learn why you believe what you believe. Those who tend to be silent when they should be vocal about the faith are those who most likely don't have much depth in their faith. The more you know about your faith, the stronger you will stand in it. This will only come by helping others see that our faith is right by our love and good works. It is literally taking others with you to see how it works. It provokes them to want to do the same thing.
Second, verse 25 tells us to be faithful to church. Being faithful to church helps you to grow in your faith so that it never wavers. When you hear the preacher preach the Word of God, it builds your faith. When you hear your Sunday school teacher teach the Scriptures, your faith is strengthened. Your faith is also strengthened by being around other Christians. You will find your faith wavering if you don't stay faithful to church.
Third, verse 25 also teaches that inviting others to church will help your faith not to waver. There is nothing like having converts you led to Christ come with you to church. It strengthens your faith. This is why you must actively try to lead people to Christ on a daily basis. The more you lead to Christ, the better chance you have of having someone come with you to church. The more people you bring to church, the more confidence you will have in your faith.
Fourth, verse 26 shows us that keeping our life clean from sin will help your faith not to waver. One of the reasons people compromise their faith is because they are trying to justify their sin. Keep a short account with God concerning sin. Clean your life up so that sin does not rule in your life. The less sin you have in your life the bolder you will become concerning your faith.
Friend, let me challenge you to develop a faith that does not waver. These four things are imperative to developing an unwavering faith. By practicing these four things regularly, you will see yourself become more confident about what you believe and bolder about your faith with others.
