Psalm 91:1
"He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty."
Throughout my lifetime I have had several addresses. By the time I graduated from high school, I had lived in six different states and in eight different homes. Needless to say, we were very transient throughout my childhood. Remembering the address of each place where we lived would be difficult for me.
However, there is one place where I truly want to have an address and that is in the "secret place" of God. If there is ever a place where you should decide to move, it should be in the "secret place of the most High." Dwelling in the right place will bring some benefits with it.
First, dwelling in the right place will give you the right presence. We often talk to youth about making sure they are always in the right place so that they will always have the right type of people present, but this also applies to your Christian life. If you will dwell in the prayer closet, you will find the presence of God. If only we could understand that having the right presence will mean we will do the right things. We wonder how to overcome our sin, and the answer is to be in the right place so that you can have the right presence, and that is the presence of God. The greatest way to overcome sin in your life is to be in the presence of God which will drive sin away.
Second, dwelling in the right place will give you the right power. Notice that it didn't just say that you will dwell in the shadow of God, but if you dwell in the "secret place" you will find the "shadow of the Almighty." Friend, it's no secret that if you need help that you need to be sure you are in the right place so that you can have the right presence of the One Who has the right power to help you through whatever you face. You can choose to fight your battles alone, or you can dwell in the "secret place" of God and find His power is there to help you overcome sin and face your daily trials.
Third, dwelling in the right place will give you the right peace. Christian, when you are around the right presence and have the right power to help you, then you will discover a peace that you never had before. You will find that all worries will end if you will dwell in God's presence. You will find peace because you have His power to help you through your daily problems. Your search for peace in life will be over if you will dwell in God's presence.
What does it mean to dwell in the "secret place of the most High?" It means to set up residence in prayer. It means to continue in prayer. It means to spend time in prayer. It means to be fixed upon God in prayer. You will never find the right presence, power or peace until you start dwelling with God. That means that you should not only have a time in prayer, but that you should have a life of prayer. It means that you should walk throughout your day in an attitude of prayer. Constantly pray throughout the day and ask for God's help. It also means to spend much time with God in a set time of prayer. Don't just rush through your prayer time, but slow down and spend time with the God who has the power to help you face your day.
Is your address the "secret place of the most High?" Prayer is the answer to helping you face every day and the problems that come with each day. It will give you a peace throughout the day that will keep you calm in the most adverse circumstances. I encourage you to make one last move in life, and that is to move to the "secret place," for in that place you will find the presence, power and peace that you need for your daily life.
