Your Destiny is Waiting

Joshua 18:6

"Ye shall therefore describe the land into seven parts, and bring the description hither to me, that I may cast lots for you here before the LORD our God."

Several times throughout this chapter the word "lot" is mentioned.

The word "lot" means portion or destiny. In other words, Joshua wanted to show them their destiny. He wanted them to see what God could do through them; however, their destiny waited for them to step up to the plate and go after it. Their destiny was not going to be handed to them, but it was something they had to go after themselves.

Every Christian has a destiny that God wants to give them. What each Christian must realize is that their destiny will not be handed to them, but they are going to have to go and claim it themselves. In other words, your destiny is waiting on you. It would be sad to see your destiny wasted because you didn't claim it. Let me show you what Israel had to do to claim their destiny and how this applies in your life.

First, God has an individual destiny for each person. You will notice throughout this chapter that each tribe had their own lot. Their lot was unique for them. Likewise, your destiny is unique for you. God designed your destiny specifically for you. This is why it is unwise for you to compare what you have to someone else. Certainly, someone else's destiny may seem good, but yours will seem good to them. You simply need to focus on your own and realize that God has designed it for you.

Second, you will only see your destiny through the eyes of God. It is interesting that Joshua received each lot for each tribe from God. Joshua could not see these lots through his own eyes, but he could only see them through God's. Likewise, you will only see what God has in store for you through His eyes. You will never see things through God's eyes without spending time with Him. Many times God lets me see a portion of my destiny when I spend time with Him in the Scriptures and prayer. That is how you see things through the eyes of God. When you're too busy to spend time in the Scriptures and prayer, then you are too busy to see your own destiny.

Third, your destiny will not come if you don't go after it. God showed each tribe their destiny, but they had to go and take it. In other words, there was hard work they had to do to realize their destiny. Your destiny is not going to be given to you. You are going to have to go after it if you are going to obtain it. It will take hard work, but the hard work is worth it once you've obtained your destiny.

Christian, your destiny is truly waiting upon you. It is no one else's fault that you don't obtain your destiny but your own. God has already defined your destiny, but it is your job to take the vision God has for you and go after it. If you sit waiting for someone to give it to you, then you will never see it. Don't waste your destiny. Claim the destiny that God has for you by setting goals to get it. You are wasting your destiny as long as you wait for it to come to you. Don't look to anyone else to get it, but look to yourself and claim it through hard work and prayer.
