Preparing for the Storms

Mark 4:35

"And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side."

Did Jesus know that a storm would come when He said, "Let us pass over unto the other side"? He absolutely knew there would be a storm. In fact, when you study this whole chapter, you will see that Jesus prepared His disciples for the storms with the sermons He preached and the illustrations He used. There were five things that Jesus tried to teach His disciples before they faced this storm to prepare them for the upcoming storm.

Yield to Your Shepherd

Psalm 23:1

"The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want."

Throughout the Scriptures, God refers to Christians as sheep. That means that if we are sheep, then we need a shepherd. The Scriptures make it very plain that God becomes one's shepherd when a person gets saved. Though God is your shepherd, that does not mean that you automatically get all the benefits of being His sheep. Those benefits only come from yielding to your Shepherd. Psalm 23 shows us several benefits of yielding to your Shepherd.

Bible Thoughts by Terry Hedderman

Sunday, 2/15/15  Do you consider yourself to be rich or poor? Pro 13:7 There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing: there is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great riches. A hundred years from now, will you be rich or poor?                                  Luke 2:25 (spoken to Mary) (Yea, a sword shall pierce through thy own soul also), that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed. Mary knew Jesus was God incarnate, and she called Him “my saviour” (meaning she was a sinner in need of salvation.) She was a normal good woman...no more. She and Joseph had a normal marriage after Jesus came, and had at least 7 other kids. She must absolute HATE that anyone would pray to her and not Him. The worship, revererence, or adoration of Mary is idolatrous!! Jesus is the only Mediator between God and man.

They Have Their Reward

Matthew 6:16

"Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward."

One of the groups whom Jesus consistently exposed were the Pharisees. The Pharisees were certainly very religious people who made sure everyone saw how good they were. If you were to come across a Pharisee today, you would think of them to be a very good and moral people. They attended their services regularly, tithed of all their income and they prayed on a daily basis. They were very good people if you compared them to other men.

Habits of a Wise Man

Ecclesiastes 8:1

"Who is as the wise man? and who knoweth the interpretation of a thing? a man's wisdom maketh his face to shine, and the boldness of his face shall be changed."

If I were trying to find someone who is wise, then I would try to determine what their habits are so I could identify them. It is asked in the verse above, "Who is as the wise man?" This rhetorical question is answered throughout this book. The reason this question was asked was to get the reader to find the answers that were already given throughout this book. As you study the Book of Ecclesiastes, you will find there are four main habits of a wise man.

The Line Between Islamic Extremists and Gay Rights Extremists

We have another life targeted for destruction by the gay rights community. Barronelle Stutzman, an evangelical Christian, declined to provide flowers for the homosexual wedding of a long time customer of hers. The customer was gay and, again, a long time customer. Barronelle Stutzman is now going to lose her business, her life savings, and possibly her own home for putting her faith into practice. Both her customer and the State of Oregon are taking everything she has for not bowing at the altar of sexual sin.

Look Unto the Heavens

Job 35:5

"Look unto the heavens, and see; and behold the clouds which are higher than thou."

Looking the wrong direction can certainly get you lost. Years ago a friend of mine and I were hiking in the woods when we got disoriented with our location. Instead of staying on the trails and following them back to the right path, we decided to blaze our own trail back to his house only to stay lost for the next two hours. It wasn't until we decided to get on a trail and follow it that we got back to where we were supposed to be. It all came down to where we were looking.
