Big things come in little packages

Mark 4:31
“It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when it is sown in the earth, is less than all the seeds that be in the earth:”

When I was young, most of the time I was the shortest in my class. You didn’t have to look hard in the class pictures to find me because I was normally the shortest one in the picture. My daughter seems to have followed in my footsteps, though she had no choice in the matter. Being the shorter person always brought about challenges of seeing what was going on up front, and it also brought a slight bit of jealousy towards the taller students. My father would often encourage me by saying, “Son, big things come in little packages.”

Watch

  • Matthew 26:40

“And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour?”

Several times in the Scriptures the Christian is warned to watch. The night that Jesus prayed in the garden, He asked His disciples to pray with Him. After praying alone, He came back to check on the disciples only to see them sleeping. The final time He checked on them, He asked them, “What, could ye not watch with me one hour?” Jesus knew the importance of the Christian being on watch. If it is important for the Christian to watch then what does it mean to watch?

Avoiding the Scandal

  • Matthew 18:7

“Woe unto the world because of offences! for it must needs be that offences come; but woe to that man by whom the offence cometh!”

I was in my last year of high school when one of the “respected” men from our church asked to talk to me. He brought me into a side room because he told me what he needed to talk to me about was private. His conversation was a mere attack against my dad who was the pastor of the church. He told me that my dad needed to be removed as pastor, and he was asking me to vote against my own family. This man’s efforts eventually came to naught, but not without damaging younger Christians.
