Jealous for Blessings

2 Samuel 6:12

"And it was told king David, saying, The LORD hath blessed the house of Obededom, and all that pertaineth unto him, because of the ark of God. So David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obededom into the city of David with gladness."

For three months David saw how the LORD blessed Obededom's household because of the presence of the Ark of the Covenant.

When Tragedy Hits

1 Samuel 31:7

"And when the men of Israel that were on the other side of the valley, and they that were on the other side Jordan, saw that the men of Israel fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, they forsook the cities, and fled; and the Philistines came and dwelt in them."

Tragedy is sure to hit everyone at some point in their life.

No Restraint

1 Samuel 14:6

"And Jonathan said to the young man that bare his armour, Come, and let us go over unto the garrison of these uncircumcised: it may be that the LORD will work for us: for there is no restraint to the LORD to save by many or by few."

The children of Israel were holed up in the battle, and it seemed as though there was no way out of defeat against the Philistines.

Exposed for Destruction

Judges 18:7

"Then the five men departed, and came to Laish, and saw the people that were therein, how they dwelt careless, after the manner of the Zidonians, quiet and secure; and there was no magistrate in the land, that might put them to shame in any thing; and they were far from the Zidonians, and had no business with any man."

Every year I take a foreign trip to visit a missionary friend of mine down in Central America.

Will Ye Plead for Baal?

Judges 6:31

"And Joash said unto all that stood against him, Will ye plead for Baal? will ye save him? he that will plead for him, let him be put to death whilst it is yet morning: if he be a god, let him plead for himself, because one hath cast down his altar."

One of the first things Gideon did when he began to lead Israel was to remove the altars of Baal.
