I'm a Scout

John 4:23

"But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him."

For about a decade, I took a group of young people out every summer to represent a Bible college. The purpose of going out with this group was to recruit young people who were seeking to go to Bible college. We were scouts for the college, seeking young people who had a desire to serve the LORD full-time or who had a desire to learn more about the ministry so they could go back to their home church and help their pastor in the ministry.

Bible Thoughts by Terry Hedderman

Sunday, 5/3/15  Ps 142:4 I looked on my right hand, and beheld, but there was no man that would know me: refuge failed me; no man cared for my soul. I just asked God to forgive me for being so cavalier towards people and not deeply caring...maybe you need to do so too.                                    What is prayer? Really?!? What is the essence of prayer?  It’s simply asking a favor from God. Well, if I’m asking you for a favor, it would hurt my chances of a positive answer if I’m being haughty or demanding; or if I am actively doing things that aggravate you. And it definitely wouldn’t help my cause if I’m abusive to your kids. Pro 28:9 He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination.                           Jud 2:4 And it came to pass, when the angel of the Lord spake these words unto all the children of Israel, that they people lifted up their voice, and wept. They wept, but didn’t change. Do you weep over the pain and sorrow that your sin caused Christ and/or His people, or over what it causes you? Do you keep doing it over and over again?

I Know Who You Are

Luke 22:21

"But, behold, the hand of him that betrayeth me is with me on the table."

One of the most amazing verses in the Scriptures is the verse above. Jesus is at the last supper with His disciples, and He prophesied that one of them was going to betray Him. Not only did He prophesy who was going to betray Him, but He identified that He knew who they were and that they were sitting with Him at the table. The disciples wanted to know who this person was so that they could take care of him, but Jesus would not let the conversation go any further.

Mustard Seed Faith

Luke 13:19

"It is like a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and cast into his garden; and it grew, and waxed a great tree; and the fowls of the air lodged in the branches of it."

We often hear about God being the God of the miraculous, but we sometimes fail to hear where the miraculous starts. When Jesus describes the kingdom of God, He says, "It is like a grain of mustard seed..." In other words, before the miraculous ever starts, there is a person who takes a small amount of faith and uses what they have, and He then takes that faith and blesses it. There are several things that God is teaching us about mustard seed faith.

5 Qualifications for Advisors

Exodus 18:21

"Moreover thou shalt provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them, to be rulers of thousands, and rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens:"

The pressure of leading the children of Israel had evolved into something that was greater than what Moses could handle. He would literally spend all day counseling, judging and advising the people and it was wearing him down. His father-in-law wisely advised him to train several men who could help him in counseling, judging and advising the people. There were five qualifications that he gave that would be wise for anyone to follow when choosing someone to advise them.

Bible Thoughts by Terry Hedderman

Sunday, 4/26/15  Deut 33:2c-3a ...from [God’s] right hand went a fiery law for them. Yea, he loved the people... God’s rules are not unnecessarily limiting (like those of a cruel babysitter): they are protective, just like we had and enforced rules on our toddlers re: electrical outlets or knives or playing in the street. You’ll understand God a LOT more if you view yourself as about a 15 month old and not as a mature adult.                                Pro 21:21 He that followeth after righteousness and mercy findeth life, righteousness, and honor. Do you chase after righteousness? (Maybe I should ask about your church attendance and Bible reading record.) Do you pray for holiness? For a revelation of your sins so you can correct them? Do you thrill for opportunities to extend mercy and rejoice over others being given mercy?

When did he stop?

"After all the rioting that's gone on in Baltimore this week, Obama said the first thing he wants to do when he leaves office is plant himself on a beach and start drinking out of a coconut shell. And then after that he wants to go back to community organizing, which kind of surprised me because I didn't know he ever stopped." -Rush
