In Spite of Circumstances

Genesis 39:21

"But the LORD was with Joseph, and shewed him mercy, and gave him favour in the sight of the keeper of the prison."

The first thirty years of Joseph's life were certainly unpleasant years. It didn't matter what Joseph did, he always found himself in unpleasant circumstances that were beyond his control. When he did right, it seemed as if circumstances got worse. No doubt he could have easily become discouraged with all that he faced.

Better?

As the world implodes, and it becomes glaringly obvious that Obama’s policies have deeply injured the American spirit, Obama appears increasingly disconnected. To a nation struggling mightily under horrific economic burdens, he brags about his “actually pretty smart policies.” He asserts: “By almost every measure, we are better off than when I took office — by almost every measure.” Almost. Except, you know, the economy, medicine, foreign policy, military strength, border security, domestic tranquility, the Constitution, and the American Dream.

Bible Thoughts by Terry Hedderman

Sunday, 7/27/14  Ps 33:1 Rejoice in the Lord, O ye righteous: for praise is comely for the upright.  Praise is NOT great, bubbling happiness. In this verse, the colon means the 2nd half relates to the first half of the verse. Rejoicing is equivalent to praising God.             John 16:1 These things have I spoken unto you, that ye should not be offended. Leaders (husbands, parents, bosses, SS teachers, pastors) look and think ahead and foresee what might knock your followers off kilter and prevent it or prepare them.

Regarding the Life of Your Beast

Proverbs 12:10

"A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast: but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel."

Oftentimes as a young teenager, my father would have me help him when he worked on cars. He was a mechanic before he went into the ministry; therefore, anytime someone needed some help with their vehicle, he would use his skill to save them money. There were also times he would do side jobs so he could pay the bills.

Remember Where You Fell

Revelation 2:5

"Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent."

In the sports world, a team will often study film after a game to see what caused them to lose. One of the worst feelings to experience is the defeat after a hard fought game. I have always hated losing and the bitter taste it left in my mouth. That bitter taste caused me to analyze what caused the loss and not do it again.

After God Speaks

2 Peter 1:21

"For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost."

The battle has always been over the Word of God. It goes back to the Garden of Eden when Satan said, "Yea, hath God said..." You can be assured that anytime God speaks Satan will always give a rebuttal. God spake to Adam and Eve and Satan responded. God spake to Balaam and Satan responded. God spake to the young prophet in 1 Kings and Satan responded. Satan always responds when God speaks because he hates God's Word.

Prayer Helps

James 5:13

"Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms."

Getting help in prayer is always beneficial to getting from God what we need. Of all the things the disciples could have asked Jesus to teach them, you will find that the only thing they asked to be taught was how to pray.

Unwavering Faith

Hebrews 10:23

"Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)"

God commands us to "hold fast the profession of our faith..." You will notice that we are not only commanded in the Scriptures to hold onto the faith, but we are to profess our faith. In other words, God wants us to tell others about our faith and what we believe.
